Default Question about Vararam filter

Is it possible to put this thing upside down? I looked at it and it had no arrows and the directions said something about installing it correctly but I didnt see any markings. I just stuck it in with the side with the least amount of markings face down. hell this thing looked almost the same on each side.

I noticed the same, but couldn't immagine that it would make a difference.

It would be difficult to get the runners of the C5 system in upside down. If inverted, they wouldn't line up with the bumper cutouts. So that much is pretty straightforward.

Since they join up and bolt together in front of the rad header, the biggest trick was figuring out how to get all the foam and the bolts together right. We just looked at the pictures a bit, then lined them up in the way that made the collectors form a more or less flat surface.

The top part - the housing that connects to your MAF - has the most potential for being inverted. The small hole goes on the driver's side, and accepts the air intake for the electric AIR pump. The Vararam logo goes up, so it shows through the gap when the hood is open.

In my case, being in California, I pulled the label off to make the thing look more like something the General would have installed.

Cajundude has a good write-up on installation. You may want to search for vararam+cajundude to see if you can find it.

Real pleased with the results. More so if I can get it past the smog guys. I need to find a GM-looking label of some sort for it...

I believe you are talking about the filter itself and not the whole Vararam assembly. I looked at my K&N style filter in my Vararam and I do not believe there is a unique top or bottom.

He's talking about the filter element. Not up and down, but in and out. Most filter elements are directional, hence his query. I kinda wondered myself, but ended up just putting it in the way it sealed the best, and hoping it didn't matter.

My bad. I just assumed the question was related to the whole darned thing. No wonder my wife always tells her friends
