I have worked, like most of us since high school. I only got fired one time & I was 50 years old at the time. Truth be told, I liked my job but just hated the people I was working for. As a result I started my own company, that was ten years ago. I now make almost as much in a month as I did in a year with those azzholes. My daugther joined the company 5 years ago & we've never looked back. This is a very good time for you to take "stock" in where you are and where you want to go, best of luck to you, (& keep that chin up)
Sorry to hear about the job bro! Take some time and regroup and think about what you would be happy doing, then go for it. I was miserable for years, then one day i said f@#k this!!! I now work for the government (no jokes) and love my job! I made a little more money before but a job with GREAT benefits, AWESOME retirement and NO stress or worry of layoffs is priceless. Hang in there buddy, you will do just fine. You will be fine,, you know why?? Because you are smart, and smart people always come out on top my friend! In our society now with all the idiots, it's easy for us smart and motivated people to shine through. Remember that!!
Great advice. I too got canned...no warning at all. Had just received the biggest bonus ever for great performance and boss said...you gotta go?? We previously went through all this team building training where we were encouraged to "speak up and share our opinions". I guess what I learned was to keep quiet and to hexx with my opinion unless it matched the bosses!
You have a great attitude, dude and you will find something better. When you look back on it, you will wonder how you managed to stand the old place as long as you did. Keep looking up and stay motivated. You have friends here on the Forum who have already been where you are and survived..even thrived!
If you are considering Teaching, take your hand and smack it with a hammer. Most states are taking anybody teaching, because the jobs/kids spit em out as fast they come in. The quit rate for teachers is near 70% in the first three years. You have to have a real thick skin, and deal with stuff on a insulting personal level.
I'll give you an example on how I handled an exchange with a student one day:
STUDENT: Mr G., "your wife is great *****, I did her all night yesterday"
MR. G. "Yes, you're right, she's a good one, and she shares, she always leaves money for me too on the dresser"
Believe me, you gotta be wacked to do the job, but it has a lot of personal reward, I've been at it 18 years now. I teach Tech Ed / AutoCad 2007 to high school students.

Thanks to all for your supportive words. I was out today chasin some idea's and working my resourses. A job doesn't seem hard to find. I think I am going to have lots of options here. As for your thoughts on teaching I actually expected that. I was working with 60 yr olds that act like that and are even more perverse and creative. Plus they had a union behind them. so it's very similar. All and all anyone looking for a mechanical engineer car buff to work for them in a drity job? Preferably in the pittsburgh or louisville. area?
