Default Borla XR-1 ripoff

Way back in September, I purchased a Borla XR-1 exhaust system from a website using paypal with american express. I only received the X-Pipe and filed a dispute with paypal. Paypal rejected my dispute because they do not protect buyers from the contents of packages bought from sites other than ebay. So I disputed the charge with american express and eventually they credited my account and paypal has finally closed the case. Should I contact this guy (he was extremely rude with me during this whole thing) and offer to send the X-Pipe back if he pays for the shipping?

I would contact the guy and offer to send it back only if he pays for not only the return shipping, but also for the original shipping charges to you. Otherwise, sell it.

Since you have his product in your hands and he has no money, I would make every effort to get it back to him.

Their website is pretty professional looking. It doesn't appear that they're in the business of shafting people. What did they say about only sending the X-Pipe and charging full system price? Was the rest of the system back-ordered or out-of-stock?

American Express returned all funds to me, so I am out $0 ...

I thought the website was professional looking too. FedEX dropped the package at my door, while I was working in the back office. When I went to take it to a friend's place to install it, I noticed it only weighed about 10 lbs or so. I called them and a guy named Leon (I have a feeling he is lmperformance) was very rude to me and hung up basically. Looking at the box, it was obviously opened after it left Borla (the Borla seal was broken and the box was restapled close). FedEX investigated it and determined that it did not open during shipping because they don't restaple boxes. lmperformance sent me threatening emails during the whole ordeal.

Honestly, I think I was scammed because I paid with PayPal, and since the transaction was not through ebay, I was not protected from disputed contents. Paypal closed my dispute in a couple of days in favor of the seller. Lukily, I paid PayPal with American Express

Here is the transcript of the PayPal dispute ... one thing I should note is that FedEX really helped me with this and told me the package was billed by package size, not weight, Borla told me it should have weighed 59lbs anyway ...

From Buyer: Ryan Swift on 9/13/2006 11:57 PDT

The seller is lying about what was shipped. he also hung up on me when i told him i would like this resolved. The seller did not send the correct part. the seller would not work with me for a resolution.

From Seller: LMPerformance on 9/13/2006 11:49 PDT

CUSTOMER RECEIVED THE PARTS HE ORDERED. PARTS WEIGHT 50 LDS. FEDEX SCANNED THE PACKAGE AND IT WEIGHED 50 LDS. MY WHOLESALER SAID IT WAS 50LDS. CUSTOMER ALSO SAID TAHT THE PART NUMBER ON BOX MATCHES THE CORRECT BORLA PART NUMBER WHICH FURTHER CONFIRMS THIS. CUSTOMER ALSO STATED THAT THE BOX WAS IN GOOD SHAPE AND UNOPENED. CUSTOMER ALSO CLAIMED TAHT THE BOX ONLY WEIGHED 5 LDS. CUSTOMER GAVE US NO TIME TO RESOLVE THIS AND ACTUALLY HUNG UP ON US. CUSTOMER IS TRYING TO OBTAIN FREE PARTS. HE SAID HE DID NOT EVEN KNOW THAT IT CAME WITH THE FULL ASSEMBLY XPIPE. CUSTOMER IS ATTEMPTING TO KEEP THE PART HE WANTS (THE AXEL REAR EXHAUST SECTION) AND RETURN THE OTHERS AND WANTS A FULL REFUND EVEN THOUGH HE GOT WHAT HE ORDERED. HIS DISPUTE SHOULD BE REJECTED BASED ON THE FACT THAT BOTH MY WHOLESALER AND FEDEX RECORDED THE CORRECT SHIPPING WEIGHT OF THE ITEM AT 50 LDS.
