Why are you guys recommending putting it in 3 instead of just leaving it in D? It doesn't even shift into 4th anyhow, so it really shouldn't make a difference in the times either way. But I would rather have it in D so that at the end of the run when I let off the gas it shifts to 4th and the revs aren't too high.
Leave the traction control on ( you don't want any wheel hop ) Leave it in "D" and slam the peddle to the floor from idle on the last yellow.
You don't want traction control on because if you start getting a slight bit of spin then the car will slow down too much. It's actually better that you get a slight hint of wheelspin anyhow, I've found the engine bogs too much if the tires hook too hard. (at least with my setup being so close to stock and with stock convertor/gears)

I think it is more of an issue when racing. If for some reason you need to let off for a second you don't want the car dropping into fourth and having to go down two gears on the reacceleration.
I was told to keep it in 3rd and have never had a problem with it there. I can put it in 4th at the end or leave it in 3rd to help the braking on the tracks with the shorter run off.

It's been reported (though I dont' know if ever confirmed) that the A4 WOT shifts will be 200 to 300 RPM higher with the tranny in "3" than in "4".

When I first got my car and it had the stock tuning I tried doing a few runs in 3rd compared to 4th and I'm pretty sure it shifted at the same point either way.
I've had it dyno tuned since then though, and the first thing I asked them to do was to raise all the shift points to 6100rpm. The stock shift points are way too low (I noticed the 1-2 shift would happen at only 5500) Another thing they did was to speed up the time it takes for the trans to actually throw the shift. With the stock programming there is a bit of a delay, but now it goes into the next gear super fast. (this isn't the shift "firmness" though, this is something completely different)

Yeah! In fact, you should go outside and give it a try right now. be sure to get someone to make a video so you can post it for us to laugh err learn from.

Reason: note: this is a joke. please don't break your tranny!
* turn off TC but leave AH active on (if your C5 has the competitive mode)
I will edit my earlier post.
I totally disagree with leaving TC active . In theory this sounds good, but the C5 TC is not optimized for racing applications. It`s an ice/snow traction system.
yup.. i left my t/c on and got sent home that will not happen again
If you are new to drag racing and the track is not prepped correctly you better leave the traction control on if you don't want to ruin your car. There is a chance you can wheel hop or go sideways into the guard rail or the other lane. Think about it,leave the T/C ON until you get a few passes under your belt. My car cuts consistant 1.8 60' times with the T/C on.
I also heard that the shift points are higher when 3rd is selected as opposed to "D"
Still not sure about leaving off the T/C.
Do you think it is more of a nuisance than a help when dragging?
What should a 6k miler '04 'vert run for the 1/4?
turn the traction control off, when your ready to go mash the gas and steer her straight down the track and hold on. dont worry about your reaction time. go when you are ready
Made 4 runs best time was a 13.6/102 First time ever, Tried all methods. I left the TC on and reved to 1300 with brake on and punched it. I sure could do better with practice but the first run was ride to remember.
