My ripper has a bent thread at the top which explains why the new **** I bought wont fit it. I sold the **** already so i will have to purchae a new one but need to get my shifter straightened out first.
how do i do it?
It is the very top thread, to the right of that "hole" where the demon key would be inserted.
Take a die and chase the threads, use a little tap oil and just turn it slowly. If you don't have access to the proper die, you may be able to use a stainless steel nut of the same thread. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, run it by any capable machine shop. They should be able to do it in just a couple minutes, at little or no charge.
Is it just a small part of the first thread? It may be difficult to start a re-thread die nut if it is on the first thread. If you have a small, fine file, try to file down just the portion of the thread that is bent over. If you can remove just that small portion it won't affect how the **** threads on.
