Story
My best friend from college worked hard to get his first vette in the mid 90's (Red C4). His passion for them always moved me. While taking his wife out for Valentine's day, a car load of punks in a mustang, were messing with him trying to get him to race. They got pissed thathe wouldn't race and veared over into his lane, his counter steer sent in into a telephone pole. The car spun around and it threw his head against a brick wall and killed him leaving his wife and 2 little girls. Before he died, he had ordered a new pewter C5. It came a few days after his death. She decided to sell it and asked if I wanted it. I said yes, and began learning about C's. After making the necessary travel arrangements, I was ready to go pick it up. After driving it, she said she felt close to him while driving it and said she wanted to keep it. That is how I decided to buy my car.
Ok fast forward to last week. His wife sold the hosue they built together and made a substantial amount of money. Yesterday I opened a card she sent me, it contained a check with specific instructions to spend the money as my buddy would have (she is an awesome, giving lady).
So, this leads me to the question:
I have an essentially stock coupe except for the Blackwing intake that my buddy Nouman gave me for my birthday and he is going to let me use his Borla Stingers as well, how would you spend $1000.00 on performance mods, best bang for the buck on a daily driver!
Thanks for reading my long-winded story and thanks in advance for your modding suggestions!
Proven performance mods revolve around getting more air into and out of the engine. Heads, headers, cats, exhaust, intake, forced induction make the most difference. Most of those things are fairly spendy. You could start with things like cold air intake, ECM reprogramming, etc but you probably won't get a noticeable change in the seat of your pants with that stuff. Maybe you could put a modest shot of NOS in for the most bang for the buck!
Sorry to hear about your friend... hope those kids get theirs!
As far as mods go... if I only had $1000 to spend I would do a cold air intake like the Callaway honker or the Vararam and a performance tune done on a dyno. You might even have some dough left over for bling.
The Honker or Vararam will run you $375-$490 + installation
The dyno tune will be $300-$500 depending on where you go.
Rough estimates. With those two things you should gain 20-30 RWHP.
The Borla Stinger 4" dual outlet exhaust sounds great on a stock motored C5, and you know the motor breathes easier with the Halltech Stinger Intake and the air filter out in the open under the hood. These two items were my first Mods. Love both of them.

I think you missed my point. I thought maybe the money should have went back to her to be spent on her family.
If she is sending money to his family as well (and who else?) then maybe it isn't the type of gift I thought it was (such as , thank you for being my husbands friend). maybe she is simply being generous. In that case, say thank you and spend it however you wish.
Did your buddy and you ever talk about mods? What was his most likely next mod?

And best wishes to the family.
Without giving out details, she made a substantial amount of money on the sale of the home. She would be very disappointed if we did not act on her wishes.
