For about the last 3 weeks everytime I drive my car I get this smell like plastic is burning coming from under the hood. No smoke or anything like that has bellowed out from under the hood so to speak. It seems to be coming from the battery compartment but I have been all over the motor and I cant find anything that remotely looks burned. I've driven the car for 500 miles now and I figured some thing would have happened by now but nothing. Any way if anyone has experienced this before I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
Could have a plastic bag under the car on the exhaust system. Car cools down, it dries hard, start and run the car and it softens again and stinks. HTH.

Can anyone comment on this? I've had the exact same smell for a couple of weeks now. It's driving me crazy.

I had a plastic bag get under the car and stick to the hot exhaust and had a terrible smell for three weeks, then I got it one a lift so I could grind the melted plastic off.

Did you actually take the battery out and make sure it's not leaking battery acid? It could be leaking and burning the electrical wiring underneath. Just a guess.

I had a new stereo installed in March and the goofs got a thick piece of plastic wrap on the exhaust, right next to the cat. Had to jack the car up and scrape off what I could. Now, about 800 miles later, it still STINKS.
I'd bet you have plastic (bag, wrap, etc) stuck somewhere on your exhaust. It may take a little while to burn it off.
Correctamundo!!!!! Plastic melted on the exhaust. Any recommendations on how to get it off?
Sand paper. about the only way. use a fine grit. trying to scrape it will leave some to still stink. i hate it when this happens. I caught a large black plastic garbage bag on the freeway right on the X pipe. talk about a big whad of **** to clean up. i new it the second i seen it i was gonna be spending a little time under the car when i got home.
