I got the same message after I picked it up from dealr for doing the recall on steering lock and replacing throttle position sensor.
After, i tried to drive off with message car just immediately shut off so, I did what it said and it seems to give me warning almost all the time.
The stealership said, I had a "POSSIBLE" bad ignition switch this was after I took it back the second time. I am not to sure they know what they are doing.
Column lock bypass.......search it. you will see endless info on it
I got the 10 second display even after installing the clb. Most forum members will agree to a dirty resistor on the key. It wouldn't hurt to get a clb anyway.
I took it by the dealership today to have the VIN run. The column lock was fixed in 05. He told me to clean the resistors on my key with alcohol and that would more than likely fix the problem.

Yes, cleaning the key might fix it, but my car also had the recall done before I bought it, but it wasn't done correctly. My dealer did the recall again and charged back the original dealer for their blunder. If the wheel locks after you remove the key, then the recall was not done properly. Hope this helps....

I guess I will start having to clean my ears with my truck key to keep this from happening
It could be the key but way more likely to be the column lock even if all the recalls have been done. We read so many problems even after the latest GM "no-fix".
Get a CLB. $50 and a few minutes to fit and you'll be rid of the problem for good.

I had a similar problem with a dirty resistor contact. However the SECURITY light came on and the car wouldn't start. I didn't get the WAIT 10 SECONDS message. I just cleaned the resistor tabs a little and that fixed the problem.

I had the same issue when my column lock refused to disengage. I got the lock to disengage and installed the CLB and I have yet to see the message again. Just my experience / $0.02
like others have said, wash the keys resistor pellet with some rubbing alcohol, and while you are at it CAREFULLY clean the corresponding contact points in the ignition switch with the corner of a cloth dampened with the alcohol.
