Depends. Does your state have annual vehicle inspections? If so, dont go with anything too obviously dark or it'll fail.
The cops might give you trouble if it's near their quota time.
I have 35 on my side windows, 50 on the back. 35 is not within VA laws, but hopefully the state inspection wont give me trouble! Havent had one here yet.
(See my profile for my cars tint window pics!)
I have 35% all the way around.
They will not check tint during inspection in Va (as long as your front window is not tinted).
If you have to drive I-64 east / west through New Kent County there is a good chance you'll get stopped for tint. I was driving through to my parents house last year and got a ticket in New Kent County for my 'illegal' tint. On my way back to NoVA today (a few hours ago) I got hit with ANOTHER tint ticket in New Kent County (by the same officer). Since its my 2nd offense I have to appear in court.
They were pulling over cars almost every 1/2 mile between West Point and the weigh stations. I don't know if it was for speed, but the 1 common denominator I saw on all the cars was dark (not 50%) tint.
From now on i'll be cruising route 1 down to see the parents.

Hey, 35% is the legal limit here, so that's what I'm going for. There is no limit on the rear window. I tried looking at your photos in your profile but I don't see any of the side windows. Can you post one if you have one please? Much appreciated.

I thought I had a side picture posted somewhere; I guess not. I'll try to snap one for you tomorrow.
I think you spray the window with water/ammonia mix and scrape off the tint.
Scraping can scratch the glass and damage the defroster grid in the rear window.
I've read here on the forum that the best way to remove old tint is a bit messy but safe. This is the procedure I am going to use to get my dark tint off...
Cover the tinted side of the window loosely with plastic, taping the plastic on carefully around the edges making sure there is no contact with the tape and tint. Spray water on the tint just before the tint is totally sealed in with the plastic and tape.
Let the car sit outside in the sun for a few hours. The heat and humidity that builds up bewteen the tint and the plastic will melt the glue holding the tint on the glass.
Just as Lowcash stated watch out in New Kent County. Got pulled Friday (I-64) on the way to Norfolk to attend the Waterside show. Driver's side window showed 13%. Don't know if I will change it or not. I can always avoid this section of I-64. Trooper said 50% for the side windows.
Ohio's tint requires 50% or less on all sides (to be officially legal)
depending on the size of the town you live in, you could probbly get away with 35%

I 'might' scrape mine off so I can get it authenticated prior to my court date, then put 50% on to see how it looks. If its dark enough for my liking I'll keep it, if not i'll bounce it back to 35% and I'll keep my *** out of New Kent County from now on!
BTW if you got a ticket it is $30 + $56 processing.
Also: Since you are coming from Mechanicsville, the speed limit is 60mph from Port Royal to Middlesex (just before the Food Lion). I think from there south through Gloucester is still 55mph.
35% all around. Solar Guard true grey. Cost $229 in California. At night it isn't hard to see out. California law do rdnot permit any tint on the front (darker than 70%)
I know what I wouldn't do! I call it Limo tint. It's what is on our car, on the doors and hatch. Don't know what the percentage is but during the day you can't see a thing from outside looking in. At night you can't see the outside from the inside. I'll have to admit it does work nice here during the day as nearly every day is warm and sunny.
My wife and I bought our 03 in 03 from a private party. The car had only 2000 miles on it and the tint was the only non-stock thing on it.
Although the Police don't bother folks much here in Az. regarding dark tint it's still not legal and night driving requires a lot of caution.
I've been telling myself since we've owned the car to remove the dark tint and have it replaced with a lighter tint. It's just one of those messy jobs that I'm not looking foward to.

I got my windows done last week and love it...BUT it doesn't seem to be sticking well to the rear windshield on the very top where those black dots are. How is everyone else's experience? Do I need to go back and see if they can fix it or is this common?
