Jacking locations
Need some more advice here. This being my first Vette (finally), I don't want to make any mistakes here. It's a '97 coupe. I need to remove my front bumper facia for repaint because of some minor scratches on it when I got the car. What is the best/proper way to raise the car from the front and set it on jack stands? I know I can raise it from the side, but I don't have any "jacking pads" yet.

I use the front and rear crossmembers. The are perfectly acceptable as jacking points. Just make sure you put something between the crossmember and the jack. I use a couple pieces of inch thick hardwood. My jack is not one of those ultra low profile, so I have a couple of 12" x 12" garden stepping stones that are about 1 inch high. I run the front wheels up on those and it gives me enough clearance to use the jack and boards. I bought 4 jack stands from Sears and the jack for less than $100.00.
Oh, as an extra level of safety, I leave the jack engaged on the end I am working on, along with the jack stands and then I place a couple of concrete blocks under the frame just in case #1 and #2 fail. I am sure the odds are about 1 in a gazillion but the idea of 3,000+ lbs. falling on me is not in my future plans.

Thanks to some good advice here on the forum, I purchased a set of lifting pucks from Elite Engineering. Excellent quality, although the home made version (hockey pucks) would probably work just as well.
Also made a couple ramps from 2x10 lumber to get the car up just enough to get the jack under. Works like a charm.
