I was on a highway frontage road, stopped at the light and when it turned green I proceeded across the intersection to the highway on ramp and drove right through unexpected "deep" water. I heard clanking as she tried to keep running but died. I rolled her to the side of the on ramp and walked to the closest store and called AAA for a tow. I'll be surprised if none of my rods are bent.
She's sitting in the driveway, cold and wet and I feel sick to my stomach.
I just got done calling in the claim to AAA (I have insurance with AAA too, home and auto).
I'll be posting another thread for shop recomendations for engine rebuild/replacement.

Wow, that truly sucks. Hope you can get this fixed and get back in the Vette. Atleast insurance will cover it.
And I thought I felt sick when I scratched my door.
Look on the bright side, bro, atleast you can build the motor like Chevy SHOULD have built it, right?
It was pooring rain in DFW today. I was driving home in my Z06 with vararam and lucky there was no deep water at all. Suprsied the intake sucked the water up like it did. I'm sure LG can take care of a new motor for you. Hopefully your insurance dosent say that it has to be done at a dealer.
How deep was the water?
How long were you in the water?
AAA is goig to pay for it?
Sorry about you very nice Vette,
Paul G.
15" or so from what I could tell. And I only drove through it as I was accelerating to get on the highway. I'm sure the acceleration added to the suction effect.
I'll talk to the AAA adjuster some time tomorrow, but yes, I think they should, and will cover the repair. Not any different than wrecking a car IMO. I was going through an intersection to a highway on ramp for #$% sake!!!! We had a lot of rain fall in FTW today and obviously the storm water doesn't go through and storm drain at that intersection.

They told me I could go directly to one of their approved shops and just get the work done, or I can decide where to have it repaired. I still have GMPP. so that's a consideration too . . . And although I want it done well, I can't see making AAA pay a gold plated bill, that's not right.
I'm leaning towards Moritz Chevrolet right now. They've done some good engine work on local club members' cars so I'm sure they'd do a good job and it should ensure my GMPP isn't voided. If it's only a rod or two, then new rods/pistons to replace the damaged ones will hopefully be all she needs. Sure hope I don't need a new block.
