I think I liked the Viper when it first came out---but then again my summer fun car was gonna be a WS6---now I got my baby and there has been no looking back since..The only way she goes anywhere is for a newer C5 (not much of a C6 fan myself)

Jim---that car cannot get much better but I'm sure you'll find a way..

Lori

BTW---thanks for hooking me up with Paula for my hoodliner. Emailed her a few times---finally picked a plan---now I'm just waiting to be able to afford her but I totally LOVE her work

At first glance, I thought it was a Benz SLK.

I use to drive something of that same color.

I did not realize that it was that short.

2 totally different cars...

it would be hard to choose one over the other. i realize im on a vette board posting this, but in my opinion, i get alot more attention driving my viper than my vette. not that it really matters, but just a fyi for those wondering (for the " it looks like a <insert car> crew). and it doesnt mean that the viper is any better or worse, just rarer to see on a daily basis.

both are fun cars and a blast to drive. the viper pulls like a freight train on the highway(conservative gearing=3rd to 110ish). but then again, my vette is an a4..

the blue/white vca cars are sharp. although i will give the nod to the z06 this last time around, its going to get interesting with the 600hp viper for '08.

Hey guys, that's my Viper you're talking about. Anyway, just wanted to clear things up on the license plate issue. Since I am in the paint/graphics industry, a good friend of mine that owns a bodyshop here bought an '06 Z06 a few months ago. Sharp car, but still a Vette . So he comes to my shop telling me about his new toy and asks me if I would paint some lettering on his car. I said sure, I do it all the time (emblems, logos, only airbrushed), thinking that was what he wanted.

He said he wanted the words "snake killer" on the side. I said that would be blasphemy! He was just joking around of course. He knew i used to have a '97 B/W GTS a few years ago and just wanted to ruffle my feathers a bit.

So basically he helped me with my personalized plate decision, so you can thank him. I thought about "NKBRKR", "ICULKN", 2FST4U and so on. think it suits the car well, knowing the history between the automakers. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Chevy or Corvette for that matter. Some of my best friends own Corvettes, and there will always be a place in my heart for the original American muscle.

Now, for the guys that chimed in and graciously gave me their opinion on the 4x4 appearance and the sound of the exhaust: the exhaust is not stock and the car has been dropped drastically ala Moton race suspension. I never understood why Dodge (or any other auto manufacturer) would let these cars go out of the factory with this altitude problem. I guess they strike deals with the aftermarket companies .

Yes, the V10 does have an odd firing sequence and from the factory sounds like a big, brown truck and doesn't sound like a V8, but that is just one of the things that separates this car from others. Couple that same V10 with exhaust and headers and it sounds incredible.

The thing I like most about Vipers is the fact you don't see them every day. Depending on the year, they may make 1,600 units annually. Compare that with C5 or C6 numbers. Also, anyone shelling out this kind of coin on a car would want to be a little more unique than the "other guy".

The ZO6 is a great car out of the box, and I wouldn't mind having one for a daily driver. If I drove my car everyday, I wouldn't get anything done because i would have to be in eyesight of the car the whole time. This car gets good and bad attention, ALL of the time.

The ZO6 has a high compression engine. I would be limited on power adder options because of this. Viper's engine, being of low compression, is barely starting to break a sweat when the RPM's are rolling. As Jim stated earlier in one of his posts, I will either be adding a supercharger or possibly a TT in the near future. Supercharging may be more in order, due to the price difference (supercharger 10-12K vs. twin turbo 45-60K) and the fact of limited traction. Once this car gets over 600 hp, getting all that power to the ground is an issue.

Just wanted to clarify a few things, and sorry for my lengthy 1st post.

I am trying to figure out how to post pics here so until then, here is a link to what the Viper looks like as of yesterday:

Sweet Viper! Ever since I bought my first Vette, I always wanted to get a tag that said "VPR KLR". I never thought the first two had enough horsepower to deserve that tag, but now that my third one is over 720 horsepower to the wheels... it might be time to revisit that tag situation

Is the $10-$12K for a blower a centrifugal or other type of blower? Since we're talking about Vette/Viper comparisons, just curious.

And to the halfway to six figure twin turbo packages! Are they really all that expensive? Here in Vette world we're around $8K for a blower and around $10K for a twin turbo package. Add clutch, fuel system, forged motor, and other driveline mods and you can easily step into $15K to $20K...

Looking at a Paxton (centrifugal), lighter flywheel (Fidanza), 3.55 gear, Quaiffe differential and headers.

Yeah, it does seem a little pricey for the TT, but there is a lot of tuner time involved along with the mods. I think for the extra cash I would save from the TT I could have anothe Viper, beit a another GTS or SRT convertible (for the wife, of course).

Thank you, Jim, for the warm reception. I've been meaning to join for some time now, and your post was my invitation.

Yeah, whenever the forecast shows sunny, give me a call. We'll cruise around and try to find some good places of interests to snap a few shots. It would be a good way to kill a day!

With all the BS aside, both the Corvette and the Viper are great cars. With enough money and mods, one can be made faster then the other. BUT, there is one thing the Corvette has on the Viper that the Viper can’t compete with. That is comfort. There is no way in HE11 I would take a long road in a Viper. The interior is too small…PERIOD.

Beautiful Viper and Vette there in the 1st picture. I love those blue coupes with the white stripes. Shoot I like any Viper I see. I am in the process of getting MOTONs put on mine as well. I agree that the Paxton is the way to go but man UGR and RSI make some serious HP with their TT setups. I am also wanting to get a nice GTS as a stable mate to go along with mine. I want the GTS as a dedicated track car though. Anyway, gorgeous Viper you have there.
