Default Pop up light problem

I got the vette out of hibernation today. Of course the battery had long since drained ( I forgot to disconnect it before putting it in the storage garage where I keep it ). The storage place jumped it for me, so it started up no problem and I drove it home. On the way I turned the lights on, but they would not pop up. About 2 miles later I tried them again, they still wouldnt pop up. About a mile or so later I tried again and they popped up. Then I kept turning them off and back on, and they would work about every 2nd time I turned them on. Is it possible that if the battery was still so weak that the lights wouldnt pop up even though I was driving? Any other thoughts? Thanks!!

I had a dead battery when the car arrived from the US. With a little charge the lights wouldn't move so I'd say its possible. Its a heavy drain and although they should work normally once you're on the move, weak batteries can cause all sorts of weird symptoms.

In any event, if its the original battery I'd go for a new one as a pre-emptive measure. The AC Delcos are prone to leaking and the PCM is under the battery tray. It'll cost £1000s if acid gets down there

A new one would be good insurance and will probably fix your problem.

BTW, if that doesn't work, the next thing I'd be looking at is the light switch on the stalk. For starters you could give it a spray with electronics cleaner in case its got a bad connection after sitting unused over winter.

If that doesn't work it was still worth changing the battery but you could try something like this stuff from Radio Shack

Ok I changed the old battery out and the problem is all fixed. Obviously, the pop ups require a fully charged battery!!! Thanks for all your help.
