I've had great luck with the 3M tar and sap remover . Maybe you could let it soak for a while ?
Good Luck .

Was it on the paint a long time before you tried to remove it? My Griot's Garage car wash takes off road tar, sap or about anything else without damaging the wax.

If not already said I've used WD-40 and yes it works very well.
After done take some cleaner wax and clean up the area you did ans Wala! Good as new!

i was told once by a reputable detailer that "white" alcohol works very well. you hace to purchase this at a pharmacy and be sure it is white alcohol and not isopropyl alcohol. just another suggestion if the wd-40 does not do it for you.
