I'll tell you what, I've had quite a few GPS's. (4 Garmins, OEM corvette system, and a TOM TOM 1). And my favorite has to be the Tomtom 1 because of the user friendly characteristics, the ease of the navigation and the price.
I have three of them, a Magellen that came in my motor home, and a Chrysler version that came built into my wifes Jeep, and the one I like the most is a Garmin c330 street pilot that I use in my truck and the Vette, it is a portable, has a lighter plug in, comes with a suction cup that you can put on the windshield, it is by far the most user friendly of the three, my wife bought it for me for my birthday so I don't know what she paid for it. I belong to a RV forum that is big into GPS use, and the Garmin Street Pilot's seem to be the most popular unit.
I would look into the indash Pioneer navi systems.
The Pioneer unit is definately the hot setup, as long as you're willing to take the time to modify the dash to make it fit.
Otherwise, my wife has a Tom Tom 700 and loves it! There's lots of custom voices you can download, plus you can make custom screens using your computer.
microsoft has a antenna that plugs into a laptop to make it a GPS. talk about a big screen. plus you have all the power of a laptop for running DVDs and listening to CDs and MP3s.

My son has the Tom-Tom 300, no complaints I guess. I haven't had to go retreive him so far.
I have the Garmin 320, not a big screen but seems to work really well!
Although I am not sure of the difference between the 320 and the 330 that many people have.....
I have TomTom Go300, works well, but the maps are a little outdated, and the revisions are expensive. I was told recently that the Garmin is a better bet.
