Has anyone installed a Avic-D3 in their C5 yet? If you have, did you keep the stock bose speakers or upgrade? I am just curious to the sound quality that you would get from upgrading the head unit only.
Thanks

I'm under the impression that if you change out the head unit, the Bose speakers won't work well...you need to replace the speakers also.
Do a search in the audio section..They make an interface for the bose speakers.. And yes I have an AVIC-N2 with the factory bose speakers in my C5. Works great.

I did it with stock bose speakers and the soundgate adapter. Simple install and it sounds way cleaner than the stock radio. I wouldn't change my speakers.
I just got a N2 installed (with some help from Dee Gee. Thanks!) and left the car's stock wires uncut. It can be returned to stock in a few minutes.
The Soundgate adapter harness worked well and retained the stock Bose speakers. The Peripheral GMRAP module provides retained accessory power just like stock, and the Window Valet still turns on the radio. I did lost Speed Sensitive Volume darn it. Also, the Soundgate does not suppy a 5 v. signal to activate the antenna module so FM radio reception has suffered. Next project is to use a voltage reducer and try to the module working as it should. The nearest decent FM radio is almost 50 miles away and stock reception was not all that good anyway--nothing like the wife's Impala.
It could use a touch more bass, but man this setup really sounds good....actually better than the Bose.
The Navigation is simply awesome!!! Unbelievably great freatures!!
How did you wire the adaptors in? I noticed that on one of them, they were wanting 12v,ground, and reference wire? Where is this reference wire at? Did you wire directly to the battery or just connect into the harness?
Thanks
I think I wound up with five ground wires total. A good ground point is the bolts by the ignition switch. The Soundgate picks up the Accy and BAT from the Corvette plugs. I hooked the GMRAP to the line feeding the radio. The GMRAP needs a class II databus line, it is also on the Corvette radio harness. An easy Illumination wire is on the HVAC plug directly below the radio. A Vette uses an odd size antenna plug but an adapter is readily available
I'm emailing you a couple of things that people shared and make the task easy. I'm way out in the boondocks and did not have access to a sound shop that had done a Vette. Based on my conversation with installers at a NotTheBestBuy, I'd do it myself. Hey, if you can change a power supply, this is a piece of cake!!
Good luck, and let me know if I can provide more info.

Hi RoadReady,
I'm getting ready in a week or two to do my Wife's C5 audio system. We have waiting in the wings new (used) Bose speakers to install, new Alpine 9857 HU, The Soundgate adapter and the Soundgate GMRAP adapter. Plus the Alpine's iPod adapter and bluetooth adapter. When I get to the install can I get some help in the wiring, expecally with the GMRAP adapter. I've looked it over but may have a question or two when I get into it.
