I'm the new kid (ok, old fart) on the block. And I haven't been in a good race; street, track or otherwise in years. (Was a bit loco when I rode my Harley, but that was then...) I try very hard to maintain the legal speed limit. However.................
I'm a bit dissapointed with all the "rightous" police here. Don't race, don't speed. Good golly miss Molly; peoples does what peoples does. This is the real world. (Why do we mod our vettes....? I spend $$$$ so I can go fast, but I don't....? Com'on!) If you don't like the program switch the channel. No need to tell us about your holiness and rightous opinions. People that race/speed know full well the chances they take and the consequences to themselves and the innocents. Throwing rocks ain't going to change a damn thing. Take a chill pill and move on. That's just my opinion.
Flame on...........
Let me add a PS to this: You act "stupid" (I mean STUPID!) on the road while I'm around and I dail 911.
Couldn't agree more! And again he said the race would be on a closed runway. No one is saying street racing is a smart thing and I certainly don't recommend it. But I too like this thread and would like to know the outcome:-)
Anyhow, I think I'm screwed. I just got an email from a coworker who was snooping for me:
You won't find many people on here who will admit that a Corvette could get beat by a Subaru, so do yourself a favor and get a simple dry nitrous kit. It will install quickly and will virtually guarantee you a win, even if the WRX is fairly heavily modded.
If you want to know what you could be up against with relatively simple bolt ons, take a look here.
Going from a roll does take away its advantage a bit but you could still have your hands full, 468hp is nothing to sneeze at. Ok, actually it is, but not if you're stock
Whats the big deal with talking about street racing? Its been a part of American culture since the car was invented!
My thoughts exactly. The locking of this forum is like a form of political correctness. I don't get it. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't condone irresponsible driving or street racing, but most of us are old and wise enough to make responsible decisions in our own driving no matter what antics we might be exposed to here on the forum. It's like we tell our kids...that is Hollywood, and this is real life...

If you would read the rules of the Forum you would know the "why".
As it plainly states - if your want to post, or read, street racing 'stories' - there are other Forums where that is acceptable topics -

But NOT on Corvette Forum.
I am not questioning that it IS the rule, I am questioning WHY certain topics rise to such a level of unacceptability that we must ban them from all reasonable discourse. We are all adults here and have freedom of choice. As HawnHog stated in his post, we are free to change the channel if we don't like what's on. HawnHog was right about another thing...there's almost an aire of self-rightousness about it all...

Oh boy! I love it! YES!!! Speak your mind and shake your cahones.
I don't own this forum and the majority of us are just guests here. Therefore, we need to play by the rules, BUT the self-rightous fanatics need to keep their holier-than-thou attitude in check.
I'm going back and chill in my grass shack.

I'd have to . No shortage of self-rightousness around here. I don't agree with street racing (even the most "experienced" level headed person can make a bad decision in the "heat of competition").

No offense, but you guys should start another thread to debate the street racing thing. This thread is an interesting one that I want to follow and it would be a shame to see it locked again for excessive street racing discussion. Even though I agree with whta you are saying.
Lets be honest with each other here most of us on the forum did'nt buy the vette just for its good looks we bought it because we liked the way it drives and handles. We are kidding ourselves if we dont admit that you rev it up sometimes and get going faster than the legal limit and abuse speed laws. I am not advocating street racing although I often gun it at lights but only up to around the limit 50-60 on a local highway. I happen to like to feel the kick in the a$$ you get from the torque. Just my 10 cents though ready for the flames of the self righteous I have on my fireproof suit.
Anyway, just because the previous owner raced it doesn't mean it's been tricked out. It could all just be a story, too. Rolling start, I'd say you're gonna do fine, especially over 100.
BTW if you want to win dump the clutch at 3000 rpm and leave her in the dust. Practice launching, it will enable you to win the race you have more car.
If you would read the rules of the Forum you would know the "why".

so we are gonna try and kill this thread in another way...
so this last one gets locked for street racing and this one is headed down the path by arguing about why the last one was locked
My spidey sense was tingling... 4 minutes after my post comes this response They are watching! Guys, let's keep this one on topic, I would love to find out what happens at the end.

Yep, I feel the lock down coming any minute. Oh well, rules are rules. I guess this forum is kind of like driving - a privilege, not a right. Break the rules and lose your privileges.
Not to worry though, I promise to return w/ video in hand. However, now that I know I'm going up against a modded car, I evened out the playing field. This will be one VERY interesting race. I promise you that at the end of all this, one cocky young girl will have learned a sobering lesson about real american muscle...

yea...a small bottle of 150 shot should do! Good luck, can't wait to see the video!

God I hope so, but I am not so sure. Headers and a tune don't make you all that much faster. Gobs more boost DOES make the STI lots faster. So I would not call it evening the playing field. It all depends on the mods of the STI. Good luck.

Yep, I would skip the headers and tune and just get a bottle. A bottle is perfect for situations like this -- need a bunch extra power for a race or two, and a 150 shot will make about 120 more horsepower than headers and a tune
