I would have to agree with you. I have contimplated selling my 2000, but Im not sure yet. I love the car somedays and its an absolute blast, other days.......... not so much.... Always have to clean it and detail it and have to watch who you are behind because they throw rocks and stuff. Just gets annoying after a while... and parts are ridiculous for these cars. I need two TPS and they are around 103 bucks a piece!!!
I never understood this mindset. You would rather not have it at all than see it dirty? Why not wash it and detail it less, and worry less about rock chips. Just choose to do more enjoying and less work. Sounds better than not having the car at all. And can't you just eliminate the TPS system and use a tire gauge if you don't want to buy sensors?
If GM spent a little more time reviewing the design and a little more time persueing quality they would have a world class car. I have a 06 Z06 and feel like I have been had by GM. I am on my 4th attempt to have my recall roof repair done and now they have broken the bolts off in the roof and the dealer has no idea how to fix the problem. I have also just spent 3K to touch up my paint and apply the clear car film. The design of the rear view mirror is defective and it also has to be replaced youall with 06 Z06 cars should check this out. If the mirror vibrates it's broken. ( not ajustable ) This is my second vette and I love the car but GM has let ud all down, Poor design issues and quality issues are not things that I wanted to deal with when i purchased the car. If we were all honest about it we would share the same opinion about GM and our love for the car. Instead of brageing about how wonderfull the car is we should all band togeather and go after GM to improve and support people with real issues concerning quality and design. I would hav rather spent my 3K on car parts that i liked and not on GM blunders. Wake up it's our money and time were talking about.
If it has tires or _ _ _ _ you're gonna have problems
Seriously, buy any 97 or newer vehicle and you will find eventually there will be lots of hopefully minor problems. Considering the multitude of electronics and gadgets (which we all could live without, but love anyway) on the newer models, all of which are built the lightest possible to reduce weight to increase power and gas mileage, longevity is a gamble. If it doesn't quit on it's own, it may break from use or abuse. And yes several brands, including our Corvettes cost extra to repair, just because they can. Taking good care of your car is fine, but it's a shame not to be able to enjoy driving it also. I would assume any vehicle you own is probably well taken care of you probably hate it (like we all do) when anything gets nicked or damaged. Life is too short and Corvettes are too much fun to own and drive to over stress about every little bump in the road or missing a detailing day. Carpe Corvette Diem ! Loosely translated (very loosely) drive your Corvette!) Hopefully your next vehicle will be more enjoyable.
i agree its a love hate for me too.. love the car and it has not broke on me yet but i do keep getting these annoying hvac errors that i reset and go away for a month and come back ... its just crazy and everything seems fine... probably some lousy sensor that got past QA.. thats why this is a weekend car only
Now that I'm most likely selling my 97 here in about a week or so, I'd just like to say its been a love, hate relationship with this thing. Really fun to drive somedays, other days I just want to watch it burn to the ground. The car looks great, a blast to drive on a sunny day, but there are just so many things to go wrong with it, and the prices on simple parts for this thing like a tire pressure sensor or even parts for the headlights are obscene. Well, at least I'll still have my white 79 that I own, it seems to have a lot less problems, and the ones that it does have are cheaper to fix.
Just about any car in the C5's class can be $$ to maintain especially if you don't work on it yourself. I had a friend drop off his BMW at the dealer a few years ago and walked away from it, he was so fed up with it. So far, I've been pretty lucky with mine. Good luck with your '79
