The ashtray door on my C5 vert will not stay closed. I believe I am missing some type of clip that uses friction to counteract the spring that holds it open. Is there an easy replacement for this? If not, I will either remove the spring so it will stay closed.
Are you reffering to the "outer" door that when open gives access to the ashtry and lighter plug or the "inner" door that is mounted to the actual ashtray.
IF it's the "outer" door that won't completley close then the most likely cause is the tiny spring attached at the rear of the bezel that is either out of adjustment or has popped off. I had this same issue recently and I removed the radio bezel (surround) and found that the spring was a hair out of place. I re-positioned it and it works fine now.
Of course you must already know that the "inner"door is designed to be a "slave" to the outer door so it will not close while the outer door is open.
It's the inner door that concerns me. I got to find a way to keep it closed. Slave or not. I keep my garage door remote in there.
I would say to use velcro or magnets but it's going to be a pita to open it since there is nothing to pull on to open it...I guess you could also just cut the wrapped spring off but again, there really isn't a convienant way to open the lid without relying on spring to flip it open when the outer door opens.
