How do you guys wash the engine bay. Im too scared to put any water in there with all the fuses and wires. Is there any other way to clean it.

I usually do not spray my engine with water hose or anything like that. I take my time and use various cleaning sprays from local auto store, some old rags/T-shirts, and Time! I enjoy cleaning every inch of my vette by hand.

P.S. An old tooth brush is a really good tool to use for cleaning

You can wash the engine with a mixture of Simple Greem cut 50-50 and a garden hose. Take a look at this video http://www.adamspolishes.com/t-video...ing_motor.aspx and it will give you the proper way to do it.

I use simple green, except around the belts, hoses and pullies. I wet it down, spry it on and then scrub lightly, followed by a rinse it down. Then I use McGuires rubber/vynal treatment on the seals and hoses, and quick detailer on the painted parts and chrome.

I use the 50/50 mix of Simple Green and Water. I do things a little differently than the video. I spray the solution everywhere and soak the underhood area completely. I have also found it works quite well to get the dust out of the hood insulator pad but will not get power steering oil (long story) out of it. Once finished spraying I let it sit for a couple of minutes. Once it has sat for a few minutes I use cold water (on a cold non running engine) to completely rinse off the engine. I do not scrub the engine or reservoirs (even when power steering oil was covering every thing on the drivers side of the engine) and the Simple Green usually gets all of the grease, oil and dust off the engine. After the engine is rinsed I start the engine and close the hood and go eat lunch. When I come back from lunch the engine compartment is mostly dry and I use a damp towel to clean up the radiator shroud around the air cleaner, etc.

With Bill Dearborn, Simple Green n a hot engine can oxidize the aluminum parts. That is why I also use it on a non running, cold engine.
Starting the engine after rinsing dries it off quickly.

I watched all of the cleaning videos they have to be the best videos I have ever seen on detailing a vehicle! Having just received my Zaino (based on comments from this forum), I was cloudy in my mind on how to apply and use the various products. Seeing something in action is worth a thousand words in print. Thanks Adams!
