Default Two Questions..

First, i just wanted to say hi, as i am now among the vette lovers out there! I was just wondering if i got a good deal on the vette i bought. Its a 2001,stick shift, targa, with 27k miles and i got em down to $24,100.

Secondly, I was wondering how the emissions works with this car since they just hook it up to a computer. Does the results come from after the catalytic converter? (Reason: Was looking into a test pipe, and i didn't want to get it if it would mess up the computer numbers).

I don't think the numbers will be much different but if you have a state inspection it will smell different (a flag to the Inspectors) and if they do what they do here in Jersey they (with a mirror or some crap under the car) physically check for the presence of "cats."

I just paid 25k for the same thing with 44,000 miles new tires,Corsa real clean.
Depends what state you are in for the smog test. Here in Ca. it's after the cat and on a slow dyno, also a visual test for everything.

Congrats on the new ride!

With the limited info on the car, it sounds like a good deal to me.

Not sure what you mean about a test pipe.

Test pipe meaning it replaces the catalytic converter with a straight thru pipe. They dont physically check the cars here in missouri. They just dyno them or hook them up depending on the vehicle. Is there anyway i can find out if it after the cat? I'm not to worried about replacing it unless it will alter the results. thats why i was hopeing that it was before the cat instead of after!

hmmm , I think you could've got a better deal if you would have looked a bit more. I got a 2004 Vette with a targa-top with only 32k miles for 28k...but glad to have you on the forum..have a good time with the car

Sorry. No help here. I am a supporter of the environment. There are a lot of other mods you can do.

What are some affordable mods? lets say under 100$ and an estimate of horsepower/torque they can provide? theres not much gain from swapping out a cat with a test pipe, but they sound you get from doing it is unmatched.. I did it on a 91 vr4 i had a long time ago.

More power cost money. The cheapest mod that I can think of is called the zip tie mod. You remove your stock air box cover and zip tie the air filter in place. I don't know what this gives you, but some folks claim they can feel a real seat of the pants (SOTP) difference.

Spend a little time here, read a few threads and you will learn a lot.

Oh yeah,
there's another cheap exhaust mod that adds a couple of pipes to be welded onto the mufflers. They bypass the mufflers at full throttle and supposedly sound awesome. Probably more than a hundred bucks, not not too bad. I can't remember what it's called. Maybe someone can chime in.

Sounds like you got a good deal. Welcome to the Forum.

In NV, the machine hooked up to the OBD port and occasionally they put a sensor in the tailpipe but not always. Not sure how it took the readings

Top tip, fill out for profile and then when you ask questions other members can target the advice to your model year.

Does that mod go before or after the mufflers? Do you have more pictures?
