I work in the mojave desert about an hour north of LA. We had a crazy windstorm the other day and the vette got blasted. It pitted the heck out of the windshield and blasted the front end of the car.
The paint was perfect before it happened too . I am in florida for business for the next couple weeks and opened a claim for an insurance adjuster to come out and survey the damage when i get back. The car is torch red and has a hud windshield. I'm guessing the front end will need to be painted and the windshield replaced. GRRRRR!!
How much do you guys think this will cost and does anyone know of a good paint shop in the LA / Bakersfield area?
I'm pretty bummed about this because I tried so hard to take good care of the paint on this car.

Just got mine back last week after being in a sand storm coming back from Palm Springs and it cost $7,000 I have a convertible though so top had to be replaced due to the muffler I hit and toppled over the top and ripped it.
Your hud windshield alone will be around $1300-1500 plus your going to probably going to have to have the rear view mirrors and hood painted also. The front bumper paint job will be about $600. Get your wallet out unless you have good insurance
$7000! holy crap. where did you take your car? well my deductible is $500 and i am anticipating getting at least the front bumper cover repainted. 600 sounds about right. i just hope the insurance covers the hud windshield.

I know what you mean. My wife works out at Edwards AFB and I was driving up there to pick up my kids from daycare when the same windstorm hit. Needless to say, the wife's new Infiniti suffered the same fate. I hadn't thought about filing a claim to get it fixed, but I might have to look into it. The windshield is not too bad, but the front bumper, which is a combo of paint, chrome and plastic is in pretty crappy shape. I cringe at the thought of having to take a new car apart so soon.
I'm an aerospace engineer and I get offers all the time to come work at Edwards AFB. I've never accepted because I can't stand the constant wind out there!!! Sorry your cars got damaged.
I don't have personally experience with this as I haven't had to replace my HUD windshield (knock on wood), but I've heard here a couple times that the regular windshield will work just fine. That should help out a little.
I remember living in Vegas in the 70's and driving to calif all the time and going through a few of those wind storms, but I had a crappy car and it did not make a difference, good luck with the repair

Goodluck.
I would somewhat disagree. I have a friend, in the business, who told me that some regular windshields will work with the HUD, but some won't. The point where the projector puts the image to the windshield has to be a specific thickness. If it isn't the image can appear out of focus (blurred).
Shouldn't matter since it's insured and the insurance company must replace it with HUD windshield. The only exception would be if the car didn't come from the factory with HUD.
Since it was not an accident it may be covered under the comprehensive part of you policy, which usually has lower deductibles than the collision part of the policy. Good luck with the repair.
