I have an A4 and had the local dealership do the fix. Over two years later, I have yet to see the problem return. So, I wouldn't fret that part of the topic.
Now, it only took a few hours for them to do the job, and I still have my original steering wheel. I think I would inquire as to why they are searching and ordering so many parts. Something is suspicious or unspoken by the shop as to what is holding up the repair.
