Hey guys, I had an unfriendly meeting with a curb a bit ago...gonna need a new bumper on my quicksilver Z.
Got a quote of $2600 from a corvette exclusive body shop for a new bumper cover, install, paint, fender and hood prep, and feathering paint into fenders and hood. They tell me the silver is especially hard to match so they have to blend it pretty far into the rest of the front end.
Does that sound reasonable to any of you guys who might have had body work done? Judging by the work cars I saw in their shop they do good work. I've never even had to have a scratch fixed on any car, so I don't have anything to compare it to, and I'm not sure I trust regular body shops that spend their days spraying bright orange on Hondas.
Besides the price, anybody had experience having to get a Quicksilver car paint matched?
I can't speak to the price, but I can tell you that I've had multiple body shops tell me that siver is the hardest color to match. My wife had a silver Cadi a few years back and when she had some body work done to it, we got that comment.

I had my MCM hood painted pewter and they blended in the fascia, and both front fenders and it cost $800. Paint matched perfectly. I'd say the quote you got was rather high.
Its been 7 years but I had the bumper cover on my Torch Red 97 replaced for $1500 at the dealers body shop. Not a big hassle. The fascia itself cost $400. The paint was an exact match when they were done. Not sure how much prices have gone up in 7 years but if you figure 3% a year that would be about $1900. Add in a couple hundred for more difficult (I doubt it) and you get $2100.
By the way my insurance covered it except for the $500 deductible on the collision coverage. Insurance cost did not go up since the repair cost to the insurance company was below the threshold.
Fresh unpainted bumper runs about $4-500, take in paint labor another $3-600, install probably run you about $150-250
$400 - 500 - part
$300 - 600 - paint and labor
$150 - 250 - install labor
___________
$850 -1350 - total
thanks for the input guys. they also quoted me about $1000 if I just wanted to fix the crack, spray the affected area, and blend just that corner of the bumper. I like that since it minimizes the area that has to get blended. I'm concerned that if the paint is not a perfect match when they blend the bumper into the fenders and hood that I'll have an even larger area staring me in the face than if they just blend the corner of the bumper.
Anybody have any experience with a repaired bumper cover? It's just one small crack right under the marker light, the bumper isn't completely destroyed.
While Corvette shop may be excellent, I recommend that you locate a shop that specializes in Mercedes, BMWs, etc. I used a shop like that in Erie, PA and in Memphis. In fact, the Memphis guy has done three passenger cars for me after he retired from that shop. He is reasonable and super with his qaulity. Best yet, he is very honest.
Replacement of Front bumper should be $1000.00,,parts,labor,materials assuming rates of $40&$24 per hour.
The bumper covers don't match the adjacent panels from the factory.
Why would you want to have 3 panels painted/blended to match front bumper and you will still have a mismatch at the rear.
The crack in bumper can be plastic welded and repaired.
