I have been noticing that my remote wasn't opening the doors unless I was right next to the car, it used to work from 40 feet away, so I had "Batteries Plus" replace the battery. That day the FOB worked great but today it isn't working at all. Do you all think I just got a bad battery or do FOBs have a lifespan (I have an 02)?
I can't see how the FOB would go bad unless it developed a short (which might explain the short battery life). I have an '02 as well and they work fine.
They have been known to go bad, check ebay for a cheaper replacement instead of going thru the dealer. Make sure you buy the correct one for your year vehicle.
Intermittant fob operation usually is due to weak battery contacts. You bump the fob and it momentarily loses battery contact. Open it up and carefully pry the contact up so it puts more pressure on the battery. Then you need to re-sync it of course.
If you live near a large GM dealership, go to the used car mgr. He usually has a box full of extra FOBs lying around. My local Chevy dealer has a copy paper box full. He just threw 6 FOBs at me for my various cars. Cost was a very large box of danish. (Just take your old FOB # with you.) Oh, then you need to program the FOB to the car. That most likely requires a dealer visit.

If mine is suppose to open my door then mine has gone bad too. Seriously though they can go bad just like anything else.
