From the vast experience here, I would like to query:
What seems to pull more points at car shows?
(a): Performance mods or (b): Appearance mods?
Don't say both because that is obvious. What I'm interested in is a direction to go if I'm interested in competing in car shows and want to know where to invest in the mods for the most bang for the buck.
Depends on the class you enter in. I show "original" with our car. No mods or changes, just cleanliness. If is a popularity contest vote the modded custom car wins almost 100 percent of the time. Thats why I prefer a show with classes.

The typical shows around here don't have that many classes, so appearance seems to draw the attention.
it seems to me that "bling" wins over the original cars whether its corvettes or other makes...i wish we had classes here because i think it's harder to keep a car original than just plunking $$$ down for chrome and stuff..... my .02 worth
It depends on the type of show (judges)your in, I've been in many shows, and alot of the shows that I've been in, cars with less mods have won over me. Some shows look for how clean your car is, some look for mods with cleanliness, few that I know of look for mods alone, but then that also depends on when the show is located. All I can say is you have to know the show your entering in. Most participants choice shows, unless your in the click you don't have a chance. Most of the shows I enter in some people are shocked I didn't win something, but I don't mind because I just love showing my car, and if I win something then that's gravy, and even if I don't I had a good time anyway. I say just fix your car up the way you want and if it's appreciated by other's you'll win at some shows, but don't go to a show with the sole purpose of winning, you'll get disapointed more often than trophies. HAVE A GOOD TIME
At the event our club hosts in August we judge six classes in C1-C6 Stock and six classes C1-C6 Modified. The only modifications allowed in Stock classes are exhaust and/or wheel upgrades. Any appearance or visible performance modifications puts you in Modified class. We judge almost entirely on appearance, but have changed our criteria over the years to try and be fair to every entry.
The shows I have attended claim that the cars have to be "clean, clean, clean". But the cars that seem to win are the ones that have every chrome piece Ecklers has to offer. They are not really cleaner.

In the end, the people you meet and the friendships you make will far outweigh any awards. Fix the Vette the way that makes you the most happy.
I think when you mod a car it should look like it was a factory option...and thats what should win(if theres not set class). Weather it be in looks or performance.

What I've seen locally is that whether performance or appearance, the best job of making it blend with the car instead of STANDING OUT seems to win the most. FWIW, appearance always seems to win over performance, unless it's both (polished intake, etc).
