Default Coolant Temp ???

Typically I see my temp running in the 180's, but twice in the last month I sat in traffic and saw the temp get up to 210. The outside air temp was in the 40's so I opened the windows and tunred up the heat to lower the coolant temp.

What should I be seeing as a normal high temp in these conditions?

I think I may be looking at a sticky thermostat.. Comments?

its normal do a search you will see the c5 fans turn on at around 220 and the second 240 so double check your radiator make sure no sand leaves or trash in it. blow it out with a air hose. turning on your ac at long traffic lights will cool it down because it turns on the fans. or put in a 180 t-stat and have the computer reprogramed so the fans will turn on sooner. or theres a plug in gismo that will turn them on or put in a bypass switch or drive fast ps nice car sweet color

I wouldn't worry- 180 is fine. Unless the temperatures are consistently at the higher temps and stay high, I'd say its normal. Good advice to clean out the radiator grill though. These things suck up rubbish into the intake.

When I lived in Vegas, I used to see temperatures in the 190 range and 215 plus kicking in the fans when stationary.

Sounds like you're trying too hard to find a problem, you're operating lower than most and certainly well within normal range. Clean out your radiator from debris occasionally and breathe easier.

At 210F in traffic, you're not even close to the cooling fans coming on. I think you have a winner!!

I'd be just fine with the 210F. It's when it's inching up towards 230F that I get a little uneasy.

227 is within the normal operating range. When you get near 240, that is when you need to start praying.

And in San Antonio in the summer I bet you get close sometimes in traffic. I do here in Central CA sometimes (outside temps 110F and up)
