It is definitely cooler than a metal one; I had the OEM chrome shifter ball in my 68 C3 and it would seer the flesh off my hand if I was crazy enough to leave the top down while the car was parked in the sun . As for a clear catch can, I'm working on that one; all I need is time and money.......
