Newbie Question!?!?!?!?!

I purchased some black rear bumper plastic decals with sticky backing for my 00 vette off of ebay....when i installed the letters, they did not fill the bumper lettering completely. Meaning, you could still see silver paint around the black decal. Is this one of those stand back 5 feet and all is well or should the decal completely fill the mould in the bumper??? If somebody could shoot some close ups of their rear bumper it would be greatly appreciated. To say the least, i was completely unsatisfied and tore them off and tossed them.
