I wanted to powder coat my rear sway bar, I got on the forum to find out how to remove the bar and found out that the nylon end links on my 2000 were lets say JUNK. My question(s) are can I just replace the endlinks with metal ones for the 2002- (which I think are the same as the z06) or do I need to buy the z bar as well? Also what else do I need to change? clamps, bushings?
I have replaced my end links with the updated OE ones. Was not hard but the nuts are a different size from my old plastic endlinks. Beware and replace the nuts with the correct size ones if they do not go on eazy.
Don't now about the sway bar itself as far as the different kinds (z06 vs. stock) but they are not hard to remove.
May need to jack the rear to take the load off the suspension. the front tires need to come off to replace the front end links. Much easier that way.
I purchased the metal ones from GM Performance Parts... The nuts are bigger - 12mm and I can't find a nut with a flange like the OEM so I think I'm going to use stainless flat washers and a 12mm nut with a nylon insert. Those I can find. That way they won't work loose. $.02 deposited.
As an FYI just priced stainless 12mm nuts with nylon inserts - really salty at $1.73 apiece. It's that or a lock washer which I'm not crazy about. $.02
