Thanks for the info guys. I called a few local chromers here in houston and the majority do not do wheels anymore. They said most wheels they do dont last very long due to the material the wheel is made out of. One of the gentlemen told me if the wheels were made of any type of billet the chrome would not hold up over time. More than likely this is the reason why John does not chrome his wheels from the begining.
I am just going to get the polshed and plan on coating them before I put them on.
It's not bad on a good weather weekend driver. Just polish and then use something to protect and you'll be good for some time.
Now, I just got my Vette 3 weeks ago and it's got CCW's so i'll get to find out how the upkeep is when using them on what will be pretty much a daily driver. I used a powerball mini on them last weekend to bring the shine back up and that seemed to work fairly well. Took maybe an hour total to shine them up. I'm not sure because i had the fronts off to move the spring bolts a little.
what about clearcoat...would that keep wheels looking new without a lot of work?????????
Catch 22 - the shinier the wheel is polished, the poorer the clearcoat will stick. This is why I suspect (WAG) that the OEM C5 polished wheels aren't as shiny as they could potentially have been.
I use Master Formula on the wheels, D1SC, Fuel Rails, Exhaust Tips, Etc..... Anything that needs polished, I use this product! ! Its awsome and easy to use!
