How do I find my regional GM rep... No dealers in my town are able to fix a rear diff problem that GM says is repairable? This is under GMPP Major guard.
Dealer tells me that the best thing is to get a new Diff, but GMPP wont pay for a new one since it can be rebuilt...
so the dlrs dont have the skills or equipment to do the rebuild correctly? or are they saying its not the correct fix and calls for a new unit?
just an fyi, gmpp would be rebuilding it with new gm parts also. if the case is not damaged, not a problem. a lot of the whole units you get thru extended service contract warranty repair are reman units anyways.
I have tried GM customer service in the past and all they could do was apply a little pressure to the dealer, but not make them spend the money on a new diff.
Also they would not give me that name or # of my local GM rep. They said they would have to leave a message for him.

The dealer are putting it together according to GM specs... As you know we are talking about very minute measurments. I have no doubts in the techs, bbut they can not get iit right.
I have had every part in the diff replaced including the housing... The dealer has bought me 2 sets of ring gears to try to get it right. not to mention the man hours working on my car. They could have easily bought me a new High performance Diff...

My experience has been dealerships cant rebuild a diff. It must be very difficult. I had the diff rebuilt in my jeep 3 times and they still couldn't get the whine out.

You don't say specifically what the diff. problem is..Is it the common left side leak?
Ah..I don't think most dealers have the ability to work on the diff. internals. I'd do the GM customer assistance thing or pursue the GMPP folks. You'll likely dance awhile but GOOD LUCK! Seems like they throw good money after bad, it would be much easier on you if the thing just plain blew/locked up
Most extended warranty companies will allow you to go to an outside repair facility. I'm not 100% sure if the extended portion of GMPP will allow you, but its worth a try.
Ask GMPP if you are able to take the car to a reliable transmission repair facility in your area.
Even the guys at the dealer told me the same thing...
Guaranteed new diff.
Craziness isn't it? And GM wonders why they have financial woes....wonder if any of the hierarchy ever reads any forums and reads these real stories from real owners

GMPP says I can take the car to any shop of my choice...
I would like to use a supporting vendor on the Forum but I live in Oklahoma... How do I go about this?
Reminds me of an Astro van I had. They rebuilt the rear end NINE times. It kept eating the side gears. I called customer service and asked for a drum to drum at the sixth rebuild. They said they couldn't do that. The eighth time they used a new housing and put all the like new parts in it. The ninth time they put in new side gears and bearings and it finally stopped knocking. I think some of the dealers like to milk the warranty to make more money and to keep their mechanics busy. David
If I recall, 21st Century here in the Dallas area was doing GMPP repairs, at least they were last year. If you don't mind a trip down, they are an excellent shop. I think they can rebuild your rear end...
GMPP also says that they will not pay anymore on this rear end diff... They have already paid to have it all rebuilt.
The dealer has to try and fix it or GM customer service has to refer me somewhere else.
I let a 3rd dealer test drive the car and he can hear the noise but says that it will not get any quieter with any more service. He does not think anything is wrong... So, GM customer service gets the information from the 2nd and 3rd dealer. both dealers say that it is normal. I am convinced otherwise. I have had one other C-5 and it was quiet, no whine.
How do I fix this without shelling out the money for a new rear end???
