Default Should I Bother Doing This ....?

You know what they say...don't fix it if it ain't broke. With that said, I keep getting notices from the dealership about a recall on my colum lock etc. and that I should make an appointment to bring it in and have it repaired. I have yet to have any problems with it and I'm afraid that if I do get the work done it will "all of a sudden" lock up or shut down someway...am I just being paranoid or should I just go do it?
Has anyone had any further problems after this colum work was conducted?
Thankx.

Get it fixed. First time your battery goes dead and you recharge it, the column lock will become an issue. have your car towed to the dealer at their cost of course. Then have the repair done free of charge as well.

Disregard the notices and get CLB.

Yes. Get it done. But it doesn't guarantee anything... sorry.

I blew off the notice for quite a while then after 4 years of no problems, I finally got the dreaded column lock message.

Bought the CLB, installed it and never looked back.

I had a '98 that had to be flatbedded to the dealer after they performed the recall

Like others have said, do yourself a favor and save a ton of time reading and researching about this issue. Simply buy a column lock bypass from Corvettes of Houston and you will never wonder or worry again. Very simple installation too.

I've never had a problem yet either but installed a column lock bypass anyway. My question is can I or should I as a precaution to eliminate the chance of a dealer (you never know, I might need one someday) doing a open recall have GMs records state NOT to do any CL work on my Vin #?

Never had a problem w/ my '99 6 speed but picked up the CLB from Corvettes of Houston and put it in right away. Good piece of mind IMHO - Column is always uplocked now with the key in or out.

I have been lucky with my 1998 MN6, but I finally put in Corvettes of Houston CLB. It was easier than I thought it would be.

I have heard problems with GM's kit's relay. Don't know why GM can't get it right, but I would not try any of their fixes, too many horror stories. Never heard of one problem with the CLB.

I have to agree with just get the column lock bypass, install it and that should prevent any future problems.

You are screwed...should have installed the CLB.

BTW the recall should only take 45 minutes to perform (even though it still does not guarrantee you won't have any future problems).

with everyone else. This is one of the easiest questions ever asked and there are hundreds of posts where the recall has caused problems.

Tear up the recall notice and go with a CLB. $50 and your worries are over. Just don't ignore the risk or it'll bite you

CLB CLB CLB.............

Thankx everyone for your advice I appreciate it. One last question, I will indeed buy the CLB from Corvettes Of Houston first thing Monday but should I also get the recall done at the dealership along with installing the CLB ???
Thankx again.
