Default vinyl protection

I've read many posts on the best leather cleaner or protectorate but what is the best thing to use on vinyl? Particularly, I'm interested in cleaning the vinyl on the dash of my '04 coupe. And more importantly, I'm interested in making sure it doesn't crack. I know, keeping it out of the sun is best, but what kind of protectorate works best?

You'll get many varying opinions here on this. However, you may find it best to ask this over in the Car Care Discussion section of the Forum where it has been discussed any number of times in the past. Too, several very knowledgeable members and a few professional detailers hang out in that section.

Good luck.

I've always used Son of a Gun and it works for me. 303 Aerospace Protectorant gets a good press.

Top tip, dont use a gloss protectorant on the top of the dash area as the sun will cause bad reflections on the windscreen.

Here's athread that might help:

Aerospace 303 cleaner follwed by the protectant.
It has one of the highest levels of UV protectant and dries to a flat/satin finish.

Widely available at most autoparts stores.

The only thing I have used on my vinyl is a very mild dishwashing soap (i.e., Ivory or Dove) and some warm water. Use a clean cloth to apply then another clean cloth in plain water to wipe any soap residue off. Dry with a soft towel. Has worked well to keep the vinyl in my interior looking good.
