Saw a Black C5 Coupe the other day parked at a grocery store. (03 I think parked out in the back 40 where I usually park) and upon glancing inside I saw that the A4 shifter was not present.
There was just a stainless plate with numbered and lettered buttons for gear selection. Never saw one before. Has anyone seen this? and do you think it's custom made? I take it that it's electric solenoid operated.
Looked really great.
I waited around a bit to talk to the owner, but had to get back to work. I should have left him/her a note.
There are companies making such devices for the street rod crowd. They are electrical. The advantage in a confined space street rod is obvious. MOONEYES USA and RETRO TEK SPEED are the two I can think of.

I wish now that I'd had my phone with me. I picked the day to leave it at home. There was no name on it and the plate looked like it was custom made for the shifter hole. It really looked pretty good. My only fear would be dropping somethin on it while I was driving and have it downshift when I didn't need it.
