Default Where does this part go?

This is from my friend's Vette. When he asked the parts guy at the dealership about it, the only answer was, "looks like a bolt to me."

Does anyone know where it might have come from? (My friend would like to return it to its rightful place.)

Thanks for your help,
Kristin

Looks like it takes a torx bit in one end... I'd guess it may have come from the seat motor or seat sliders somehow.

That or from up under the dash... I've had my cluster out, console all apart, and seats out many times but that doesn't jump out at me.

ttt never seen a bolt like that. It looks like some special torque locking mechanism.

Thanks so much for your help. That makes perfect sense too. He had a short in the horn a while back and had to have the airbag replaced as well in order to fix it. I guess the dealer didn't put all of the parts back!

This Forum is terrific. Thanks garage-ghost and everyone else who tried to help!

Don't worry about it, its just one of those misc. extra parts the manufacturers put in there to make them seem smarter than you.

One of the 2 bolts that hold the airbag in place. Torx 30 bit needed to remove/replace

I bet it was either an old one that fell and they missed it during the clean-up or it may be a new one but it's an extra, they simply dropped it and didn't find it until you did a few quick stops... causing it to roll out from under the seats...

It wouldn't hurt to take it back to the dealership to let them assure you that all is well and they check to make sure both are in place as they should be... Shouldn't be a big deal and wouldn't hurt to check.
