Default windsheild wiper motor or module?

my wipers stopped working earlier this week so i took the motor out and there is an control module (black box) connected to the bottom of it. my question is how do i know which one to replace? i can get a motor for about 40 bucks but i think the module is around a hundred. is there anyway to test the motor? i have it all apart now and i dont want to order a motor if theres nothing wrong with it. any help you guys can give me will be appreciated.
thanks

I just had the same problem, with my 2001 although mine were stuck up on the windsheild. I had the module and motor replaced by Sport Chevrolet in Silver Springs, MD. It was cover'd by my GMPP extended warrantee, with labor and all it was around $300.00, it only cost me my deductable.

Mine has been acting up as well. I think I washed the car to many times with drain plugs clogged. Except mine just start running for no reason. Sometimes they get stuck in the middle of the windsheild. I pulled the fuse for about 4-5 days. Figured it would need to dry out. Well yesterday I put the fuse back in and still the same. Let me know if you find out anything good. I will do the same.

Don't know if it means much, but the wipers on my '98 Chev. pickup were acting up. They wouldn't shut off or park properly. I replaced the module and so far, for the last couple of months, they've worked perfectly. New module was around $30.00 or so from GM Parts Direct.
