I have XM and find the music choices excellent.
The key for me, however, is that XM has MLB. I can listen to the Tigers any day, from home or the car.
So, check out the content you want, and make your decision.
XM in both the Vette and the truck for 5 years. I love it!! I opted to install XM-ready radio head units and then the XM components tuck in the dash, out of sight. The radio head controls the XM. Sirius probably just as good, but I too am a baseball nut-Go Giants!
If you go with XM you can call and tell them you got a coupon with your new GM vehicle to get XM for a year for only $77. You don't actually need the coupon just tell them you got and they'll say OK. I just did it in April with no problem and once they merge you'll still be on the cheapest plan.
Sirius! Have it in all three cars and the house. The home unit I have from Kenwood also has a car kit that I have in my Vette and wife's MDX. My daily driver Volvo has Sirius factory installed.
XM for 2 years and never a single problem or issue. I have a buddy who has Sirius and I really don't see a big difference in program choices. If you can't find something you like with over 60 music channels, neither one is going to make you happy!
I have the XM Roady 2 which I switch between 3 cars. Mounted an antenna on each car and just plug into lighter or aux outlet. Roady 2 also has the song save feature which alerts you when a saved song comes on.
I'm just worried if they merge, we will ALL have to buy new radios
I'm an XM guy only cuz I've had it for years. Car kits for either are easy to come by- online at the xm or sirrius sites, online vendors, big box stores, etc. Here's a link to info re: the merger... http://www.xmradio.com/merger/news.xmc
Which service is better and what do I need to set it up, I have these recievers
Thank you in advance for all your help
Sam
XM renewed my subscription when I told them not to. Also I like the 60's channel but do not like the tool they have for a DJ. He talks all over the music(I HATE THAT, its why I quit listening to FM) gives weather reports, sports reports, isnt that what other channels are for? Then theres the DJ who has to know EVERTHING about you for those that are foolish enough to call in for a request. These guys are trying to make it like an FM channel w/o the commercials. Going to quit XM soon and go with the other. If they are the same I will quit them too!
its a matter of components, it will cost you more if you go with XM the receiver will need to be changed to a Sirius tuner if in fact the merger goes through. So that means the audio shop will have to replace the wires and receiver and that will cost hourly. I personally have Sirius and am very satisfied with the customer service. I had my car up for 2 months they were very accommodating and credit every time you stop service for any reason. They were not the smartest bunch of C.S reps.
After the merger both XM and Sirius receivers will still work.
The best content will be broadcasted to both.
XM and Sirius had to agree (brfore congess and the FCC) that all the systems would work after the merger takes palce.
Had both, XM sucks, too much talk talk talk, Sirius 5 the 50s, 6 the 60s 7 70s 8 the 80s daaa Sirius in my opinion is much better, have it at home in the vette & on the Harley.

That ain't going to happen, PRIOR the obtaining their lic. from FCC both had to agree they would NEVER merger. FCC turned them down on merger for that reason.

If XM and Sirius merge there will be no competition and you will no longer see deals like $77 / year (XM) or lifetime subcription for $400 (Sirius had this a couple/few years back). Regular subscription rates will rise at a faster rate and programming quality will probably suffer as there will be no need to be the 'better' satellite provider. Definitely NOT a good thing on both counts.
If the above happens I may try HD radio for the price of hardware only and no longer give satellite my hard earned money. I've heard it and the sound quality is better but the music has commercials.
IMO, XM currently is the better content provider and in the past has had the better hardware. The content differences will of course appeal to your subjective tastes in music, talk, comedy, sports, etc... so listen to them both if you can before making a decision if you don't want to wait if/when there may be a merger.
