Just a word of advice, make sure your Z06 is running perfect and get your launch techniques down. That viper is FAST. 10-12+ car lengths against my Vert(not a zo6), but my vert is pretty quick(6-speed). The main thing is that viper really hooks up. Killed my out of the line and never let up. I will try to make it to the event also.
C5-Vert ... gearing, gearing, gearing ... and the lack of about 60 RWHP ... not to mention run craps pretty much killed you from the start. The '02 Z06 is a very different animal.
Can't wait to see the results of this match up. It's all in fun, isn't it?! :D
PS-Why not Atlanta Dragway in Commerce? I'm not too wild about Jackson's strip, plus Commerce should be closer for Optic. Either way, its not my show :) Just tryin to make life easier. Looking forward to it.
This up coming Fri. (Oct. 25th) is the last Fri. night grudge night that I'm aware of for this season at Commerce. If that is the case then that is a bit soon for them.
On top of that depending on how fast these cars are running Commerce may be more picky about making them stick to the rules. I don't know what these guys have for safety equipment but if they run faster than a 11.99 then they are pretty picky about making sure there is a cage in the car. If they are 13.99 and faster they require a helmit to race there etc...
Just some thoughts to keep in mind from what I've seen at Commerce and also some feedback I've gotten from friends with 11.99 second and faster cars and the officals at Commerce.
Garry thanks for the e-mail I think we will plan for the Nov 17th date. I am trying to fix a check engine light that will not go away due to TTS longtube headers not letting my 02 sensors warm up.
I've heard mixed reviews on the newer EFI GM motors already have heated O2 sensors and also heard that they don't (then again I don't know much about the LS6 so maybe they could be totally different in that way also.) Honestly I'm not sure which it is but here is a link to a heated O2 sensor on Lingenfelter's site. Don't know if it's the cheapest place to buy it or even it will work on your car but I thought I'd at least put the link up on here for you in case it would help out: http://secure.techservices.net/fwist...ID=66&CATID=11

Ok, this is going to be my last reply in this thread of messages for a bit here now I promise. :D
I wanted to ask you how far away is Jackson, SC from the Atlanta area? (I live in Lawrencevile if that helps you give me a better idea of how far away it is)
I am thinking of maybe heading down to there to check out some racing and I think it would be fun to watch you guys race. Does anybody know how much it costs to be a spectator at that track? How about what time of the day you guys will be racing?
I may see if I can borrow my friends Video camera and edit together a video of your guys runs for the fun of it. We'll have to see how things turn out first since I don't have a camera of my own yet there's no way to know if I'll be able to borrow the camera or not. I still am planning on heading out and checking out some good old fun american muscle go up against each other.
Ted,
not sure about the distance. I think it's about 10 bucks to watch and twenty to race. The racing starts at 6pm and ends at 10. If you are going to race BRING A HELMET. They rent them out if you don't have one.
Thanks for the info, sounds about the same pricing as Commerce (except to race it's $15 if you drive a street car into the event.)
I won't worry about bringing a helmet. After having my clutch slip the last time I was up at Commerce a few weeks ago the T/A is going be street driven and not raced anymore. Well, that is unless I get a clutch put in the car but I think excess heat was causing the clutch to slip for it only slipped after I had done two runs in a row.
It should hold up for street use and I might just be saving up to get a car with a LS1 in it anyways so I might not invest to get a new clutch put in yet. :D

NO question your car is a hell of a lot faster than my vette. And no question it will be a good race. I am just giving you my experience of racing with Gary's Viper. Your right though, those damn runcraps suck(almost like starting off on ice). Either way, should be a very entertaining race!
I dunno about the street tires. Seems a little disadvantage for the viper. Since vipers have a lotta torque, they are harder to get them to hook, but the MPH should indicate something.
Good luck to both.

I love seeing things like this, DISADVANTAGE you say FastFreddie:nopity . I was just wondering if I should feel DISADVANTAGED because I have a small block with 8 cylinders and the viper has a 10 cylinder big block. Gary 96VIPERGTS please let me know if you are feeling DISADVANTAGED today.
I dont get this.......... and this is no means a slam to the Z06 as the ZO6 is a great car for the money, but A ZO6 is not a Viper, not even close....... If you wanted to beat a Viper, you would have bought a Viper and I see there are many guys that own both that understand this as both cars have a purpose. The ZO6 is a good handeling mid performace car that can be driven daily, the viper is a ***** out crude powerhouse that is virtually unmatched in power, but lacking in many areas. So what I am hearing here is that you want to take a moded Zo6 with tires and get a bone stock Viper in a race that you do 114MPH stock and he can do 120MPH stock and try and justify the fact you dont have a Viper..... You may be able to out-tire him and get down the 1/4 (only quicker) as you apparantly are not going to give the viper one break, but what do you think is going to happen in the real world where the earth is not only 1320ft long...... The viper is going to bus length your ZO6 like it was turned off. Now if you modified the heck out of your ZO6, you probably can beat a bone stock viper. On the same hand there are some civics that are modifed that can beat all of us, so it just depends on how rediculous you want to go. This post sounds just like the LT1-LT4 guys against the ZR1 a few years ago and the ZR1 against the ZO6 where it counts.... they all wish they had stepped up to the plate in the first place and want to pick on the stock cars with mods on their cars. I am a ZR1 guy as you can tell and have given the ZO6 all the credit it is due, but I know that my stock, unmodified ZR1 cant ever beat a viper, and I also know a Z06 cant ever beat my ZR1 in speed and in a few out of 10 quarter mile races just depending on who launces and slammed gears harder. I also know that my modified ZR1 can beat just about any stock viper, but cannot beat a viper modified just like my ZR1.
So the bottom line is, give both cars equal credit, if one is modified running tires, gears ,nitrous, etc the other should have the same... and with the same mods done to a viper and same to a ZO6... the viper is going to kill it.. hard.

Dude.. The Viper has MORE mods than the Z06 and the Z06 is on stock tires. They are just having fun. The Z06 is an Underdog of sort and wanting a shot at the "Big dog". Sean (opticZ06) doesn't want a Viper, he want's to see how competitive his Vette is against one. Friendly competition between two American sports cars, thats all.
PS. I like the ZR1 but the Z06 would win in a drag race stock for stock.

Where can I buy the heated 02sensors, please do tell my car has lost 7 hp to the wheels with the headers. Do you know if this will fix the problem?

I'm pretty sure opticZ06 will have the lauch taken care of, I saw him run at Silver Dollar Raceway a couple of months ago and several of us were VERY impressed at how well he did off the line on the stock tires - go optic!
:D :D :D
Gary I have some love in the form of a N20 system going on the car today!! By the way I think you know a friend of mine "Marty" from atlanta he has the Venom 650, he handed my partner and I the DOORS off the 2000 C5 we were driving. I am in NewMexico now when I return I have my fingers crossed the sensor problem will be fixed as well, then we will be ready to break some stuff.

PS: Thanks for stepping up as well
OpticZ06
Hey OpticZ06 and Gary,
So is it looking like Carolina Dragway in Jackson, SC on Nov. 17th is going to be the place where this race happens at and also the date that it's going to happen on? Just double checking for I'm hoping to be able to make it out to see this race! Currently setting aside time to try to make it down to see you guys battle it out! :boxing (all in good fun that is)
I'm not :chevy biased :chevy towards :chevy either :chevy of :chevy them :chevy in any :chevy way! :D :D Seriously though I'm hoping it will be a close race, makes it more fun to watch!
