Default Suspicious

I am suspicious of this, make sure you get payment in cash. This guy gives you a check, even a self-proclaimed "cashier's check", then hops that car on a boat, and the check is bad, you are screwed.

Second, if he can buy another vette just like yours or newer with same money, why is he pushing you so much? Sounds fishy.

Or, like already mentioned, consider other consequences. What if his motor cooks in a week? How would that imact your professional relationship? What if he now implies "you owe him" since he "overpaid" for the car?

Too many red flags for me. Greed can blind you. I'd avoid.

Take enough to make it worth it ! Like he says!

Perhaps you could upgrade with the extra monies or pay some bills and still get a clean and perhaps already modded Vette to replace yours!

That will be a hard decision but if I were offered I might just do it and do an upgrade myself!

Thanks,matt

If Jesus himself buys any car I own, it will take place at my bankers desk, with cash or a wire/electronic transfer. When Mr. Green is accounted for, the title gets notarized and changes hands.

My concerns are for the ethical and legal concerns for doing business with the representative of another company in regards to your position with your company. It can be viewed as favoritism and any part of negotiations between your company and their company would instantly become suspect. Remember that the governments get involved in transactions from one company to another country. Someone willing to pay you more than your car is worth, when they can easily go by one from someone else at a normal price, leads to suspicion right away. If it turns out that something illegal is beinig done in violation of the law regarding fair practices and so on, then you could be facing severe legal problems. Be careful whatever you do, but I suggest that you do not do personal business with a client.

Default Here's my answer back

My answer:
Maurizio,

I've thought about it and looked at it from all sides but cannot bring myself to depart with this car. I much prefer this body style to the newer version and I have all the options that I wanted on it.

Ciao

His reply:
I understand, though I regret.

I’ll evaluate the option to buy a new one (first I should ask a salary increase to my boss!).

Thank you and enjoy your drive.
Ciao

As far as the ethics were involved, there was no problem. All the high ups in both companies knew about it and were laughing about his offer.

So I'll be keeping the car it took me 25 years to get.

Honestly? Don't be stupid. If he can offer you what you paid retail for your yellow vette, why can't he buy a yellow c6 instead? Sounds like a scam to me...I would be very suspicous about it IMO.

Hey Brucksch

Remember, he said "I would like to make you an offer that you can not refuse!". Is he related to the Corleone family?

Anyway, go ahead and sell it and buy that early year C3 you've been wanting. Here is an example I found for you.... Oh, if you buy it, I need to drive it at least once!

Stock #2486 1971 Corvette Body build date of December 28th 1970. Excellent code correct classic white (972) exterior, code correct black (400) interior, #'s matching 454/365hp LS5 engine (1 of only 5,097) with a November 30, 1970 casting date. TH400 auto transmission, posi rear-end, factory A/C, power steering, power brakes, power windows, Alpine AM/FM CD stereo, rally wheels, BFG radial raised letter tires, tilt-n-tele steering column, detailed engine compartment, all factory gauges in excellent working condition. Excellent example of a Southern Rust Free Frame! Very highly optioned '71 Coupe! Free Warranty $29,900 or 15% down with payments as low as $444/month. W.A.C.

Remember, I have a small connection with this guy.

As long as neither party have influence over any contracts pending or future projects then where does the conflict lie? If both individuals agree to a price then so be it. Now if the person offering to buy the car was buying said car for an overly amount and it could be construed as basically buying favoritism for such "bribe", then there would be a basis for concern. But the way I read it is that it was just an individual wanting to buy this individuals car. He may have seen how the person takes extra good care of his car, maybe it was the mods installed that he liked and that is why he wanted to buy it. He probably realizes that he can take it back to Italy and sell it and make a pretty good profit on it. I agree with others in that as long as you get your money in hand before a title transfer, then you basically drove your car for three years free except for gas money and insurance. Shoot, no depreciation at all!! It sounds like a great down payment on a C6 myself. But since this never took place it is all moot anyway. Nice looking C5 btw.

I was more concerned for this gentleman that something fishy was going on. It sparks more red flags when the two companies(assuming), are involved. I can see someone offering a little more for a well-kept car and all the mods over blue-book, but if there are any trade negotiations taking place and other possible companies or bidders and etc... then there are legal difficulties to be considered. I especially was concerned that this buyer could have easily taken his money elsewhere and spent less for the same car. Its very possible it was all above-board, but if it wasn't in the slightest, it isn't worth time in the gray-bar hotel.
