I’ve been working with an Italian company for about a year now. In early January one of their employees, who is on temporary assignment to the US, asked me to sell him my C5. I’m really not interested but I told him what I had paid for it and he said he would pay me that much for it.
Last night I got the following e-mail from him:
I am close to the end of my leasing agreement for my current Toyota Sienna and I am considering buying it or switching to another car.
As you very well know (!!!), I fell in love with your Corvette and I would like to make you an offer that you can not refuse!
So, if you have changed your mind and are considering making a friend of yours (me!) happy, please let me know.
Thank you.
Ciao
I keep showing him other cars but he wants mine.
Would you sell if you could get what you paid for it? I’ve had it for almost 3 years now and it has 16k miles on it.
Note: He did say he would make money on it when his company ships it Italy for him.
If the amount is enough for you to pick up a newer year with similar miles and you aren't too attached to it, and the money covers not only what you paid but what you have added, seems like it would be worth seriously considering. On the down side, how long will it take you to find another newer one that has what you want with low miles? Obviously your call, I would probably roll the dice and move up to a newer year, but as much as I have liked the Vettes I have owned, I don't get overly attached to a particular one. Good luck
Ignoring the price things... You should look closely at any ethical problems between you, the company you are working for and this Italian company. Since you didn't go into the detail there, make sure you don't get caught up in a scheme to gain confidence or promote anything that has the appearence of an impropriety. You could loose your job as well as your car and possibly the gray bar hotel if the really over the edge bad things were to happen. Think carefully.
Got my flame suit on for everyone who thinks I'm full of it.

If he tries to sell it for $75K I can see your point. Little worries about jail since it is not involving a foreign government or entity but could be seen as improper.
On the other hand if you offer the car for exactly what you have into it, including mods, I think you are okay. It could easily be argued there is value in the buyer not having to do the mods himself.
That is probably what I would offer, then buy a newer model and start moding again.
why dont you post the details of you car and the offer he made you and I will tell you within 10 seconds what to do....if you can get 30-32 and its a 97-01 sell the car. if u have a few extra g's and can upgrade do it if not hold on to it
It depends on what the car with the mileage is worth. I would say if you can get another c5 with the same mileage and the same year with cash left over, sell it. If there is no cash left over, what have you really earned, just a headache of getting another c5 similar to yours with who knows what kind of problems. And tax and registration, etc..... If you plan on getting a c6 than it may be worth to break even , otherwise no.
