ive listened to many home bose units, and i hate to say i dont think they should have put their name on the stock setup in my 00. do any of you agree, or does it seem like its lacking the highs and seperation of freqs?
i would like to leave it stock, but im a sound nut. not all about the big bass, but more super clear highs. i hear(pun intended) that the speakers have indivudual amps for each speaker, and the head units run no power. i have a decent aftermarket deck that would look smooth but i hate to take away from the already clean look. would this go in easy, or would i have to replace each speaker as well?
you guys (and a few gals) seem to know everything. help me
Dave, you don't say your age in your profile, but I'm guessing you're under thirty. You young'uns seem to be more picky about your sound systems. Us old farts (50+) seem to like the Bose system just fine. Half the time my system is turned off so I can hear that sweet sound of my exhaust system! Like what was suggested, you might try the Audio/Electronics section. I'm sure you'll find some usefull info there.
I like the bose. When I was younger, I cared more about the audio. But now I'm just happy with what comes with the car. I'd prefer to spend money on other mods. Definitely check out the audio section for this type of advice. Good luck!
I know I am quite young(23)to be apart of this elite club of fellow owners, but im proud to say i saved and saved to earn this car on the low paying military salery i recieve.
i hope its different when im older, because it will certainly save me money, but sound is very much a big issue with be, being a music nut as well. Ive had the car for 3 days now, after selling my cobra, and couldnt be more happy with it. i hope the shock never wears off...
i will check out the check out the audio section, now that i am aware of it. very new to the forums.. but have learned more about the car in the last month then the last 10 years of reading monthly mags
Some of you beat me to my post. The Bose is good enough for me. I prefer the stereo sticking out from under my rear bumper. I'd much rather spend the money on other mods than the radio. I once had some kid tell me I needed some subs. I replied that I usually ride with the radio off, listening to the exhaust. He just didn't understand. BTW, he drives a Scion Box, so of course he needs a booming stereo, the motor sounds like s---.
It's plenty good enouph for me, and I'm 26. I hate the look of aftermarket head units. The only thing I would consider is a built-in flat panel LCD (not a pop out one) for video and navigation like the C6 has. But that requires modding the trim piece and moving the climate controls around.

I'm not into the upgraded car stereo scene - as long as it plays the tunes I'm happy.
I am 56 years old. I am tone deaf. The Bose is okay, but the rear speakers are weak and there are no high tones. Definately not one of your better audio systems. It does get loud with the top off though.

Don't apologze for being young. We're a big family here at CF and happy to have members of all ages. And THANK YOU for your military service.

NOT TRUE. I'm in the 50+ club andI've been ripping that stock crap out for years.

Not really, its just louder. You may be more satisfied simply because the amps are starting to work and you can feel the sub thump.
Most stock units sound fine if you keep them VERY low so it is just slight background noise. If you want to listen to them you're going to have to upgrade.
Hey, I'm 50+, and the system sounds just fine to me, but I too, have the button most times in the "OFF" position! The rustling of the wind through your bald head, and the sweet rapture of an American V8, life just doesn't get any better than that!

Having just come from the Bose system in a Z28 with only the 3 speakers, I love this one!

Bose (for the home and car) is the high end of low grade consumer crap. (<--Don't mean to offend anyone, but it is true). There are so many better systems out there, but bose does have name recognition.
They have great success with OK sounding systems in a small package. The C5 system, sounds alright, but lacks any base and has muddy high end detail. It's a typical factory stereo system, with some logo's slapped on.
I think many here stick to the motto "There's no replacement for displacement". The same is true with speakers. To move air, you can have a small driver, with a large excursion, or a large driver, with small excursion. The more excursion, the more distorsion. You can throw all kinds of tricks at a it, but at the end of the day, its still just an average sounding system.
