I ended up just using some guerilla glue. Put some glue on the corners. Let is sit overnight on some props that kept the corners in contact with the trunk and done. haven't come loose yet and I don't think they will. That glue is pretty strong.

Thanks Dave. That looks like a great idea. Now all I have to do is come up with a liner. I just can't get myself to pay $80 plus shipping for one. I do keep my eyes open for a unwanted/used one. Maybe Santa?
The liner I bought from MidAmerica came with Velcro strips. The problem is that the heat from the sun causes the adhesive on the trunk lid Velcro strips to let go, so I bought a can of Touch 'N' Spray instant gasket foam and re-attached the Velcro to the inside of the lid using a light thin coating of foam right over top of the existing adhesive on the back of the strips. Re-apply the Velcro strips to their original place on the lid before the foam sets up. The strips haven't fallen off since.
Be very careful when using Touch 'N' Spray because it sticks fiercely to whatever it comes in contact with. Wear gloves and old clothes!
I made my own and I made a pattern if you need to use it. I will post a pic of mine. My mother in law ddid most of the work, but I painted it.

Never did come up with a way to affix it permanently and securely, my last effort failed, but I'm going to try these ideas. I dont like the button idea for me though, because I don't want my fastening method to show.
