Default Painted calipers

So I changed my rotors and brake pads and painted calipers with the kit from Mid America. I need to wet sand and they should look nice. Do you guys clear them after? Any special clear I should look for?
Thanks

I just painted mine with Duplicolor 1200 degree ceramic paint from a rattle can. They came out pretty nice (in my opinion).

If you clear them you will need high temp clear paint or it will shrivel and crack and look like "CRAP". EEEWWWWW! CRAP!

The red or whatever color you chose should be at least glossy when all is done!

Thanks,matt

I used a brush on kit. It came with cleaner, paint and brush. It worked great. I used a razor to remove the red paint from the letters.

I scraped what I could with my finger nail (when it was set up) and then used brake kleen on a paper towel and blotted the letters (VERY carefully)... it worked great.

I just hand painted mine as well...I then painted the letters black. Just a different look to check out...

I painted mine.

I did use clear on the fronts over two years ago with no issues.

For the letters, I covered them with chapstick. Once the paint dried up I wiped the letters off, then lightly ran a very fine sanding block (foam type) over the letters.

Here is my post from another thread.

I used the rattle-cans from AutoZone. The "VHT"...Can't remember who makes it but it is supposed to be good for calipers and rotors.

I covered the "Corvette" on the front calipers with chapstick - a trick I read about here on the forum.

I did these almost two years ago and they still look good.

Here is the front caliper being painted.

Caliper, bracket and rotor hat painted.
A little "clear" over the calipers.

Rears.

These rotors were not THAT old.

The misting of paint I got on the rotor came off on the first brake exercise in the driveway.

I used the "VHT" on everything.
I bought them from autozone.

Brackets = black.
Calipers = red.
Rotors = silver (chrome).

I did not tape off the rotors as I wanted the paint to cover everything. The surface of the rotor where the brake pads make contact were cleaned off the first trip down the driveway.

FWIW, I am in the process of painting my calipers. I started with a rear one today and am using XO Rust enamel from True Value...I think this is their line of paint comparable to Rustoleum. The good thing is the lineup has about four reds in it, and I used what appeared to be the darkest one to me based on the label. This is Fiesta Red. I used Sunrise Red from Rustoleum once on a different car and it was nice but showed up orange red in photos all the time. BTW this is just one coat! Jon

Rustoleum, Sunrise Red.
Under $4 per pint anywhere, cheapest at Walmart.
Brush it on. 1 pink will give you 4 coats on all 4 calipers and leave plenty for touch ups over the years.
3 years and 15K miles on mine... Have only touched them up this year.

clean with a wire brush and brake cleaner first....
coat the raised letters with chapstick... paint over them. they use a sharp razor blade once you've finished the calipers and the paint on the letters slices right off...
