Just wandering why people in high performance cars i.e. Z06, Hot Rods, etc, rev there engine just a little before shutting it off, I know everyone doesn’t do it, but some do. Is there any benefit to doing it or are you hurting your motor? I could possibly see it pushing oil to all the parts or "coating" things before shut down but then again as long as the oil is pumping I don’t see any benefit to it. Someone enlighten me on this...
On modern, ie, computer controlled engines. It is pointless and a waste of gas. Just like not needing to pump or press the gas pedal anymore for startup.
How else are you going to spend your money?? I am beginning to think I cannot take it with them when I die, because I have never seen a hearse with a luggage rack!!

Before shutting off the engine I rev the motor for 10-12 secs or so. This is to get the oil pressuer UP to make sure the Accu-sump is full when I turn off the sump then the engine
But a quick blip of the gas ( throttle ) is not needed
On older cars people used to blip the throttle to clear the carburetor and possibly put a little extra charge on the battery before shutting down. Does not really apply with fuel injection and computer controlled cars.
I agree with Hotwheels57 assessment in that more harm than good is the result of a quick engine rev before shut off. This was particulary true with carburated fuel delivery engines than todays injected engines.
The actual reasoning behind the practice was to let everyone know that you had arrived!!! Varrrooommmmm
