Default Need some Help Please

Just hooked up the battery in my 2001 for the first time since winter. The car started right up. I went on a drive about 10 miles and stopped at the dealership cause the LOC is on the radio. They didn't have the code so I was going to leave and the car was dead. Itried the ground a few times but could get on power. The dealership gave me a boost and as soon as they hooked up I had lights. So I bought a new battery and started for home. I noticed that the volt gauge was jumping around from 10 volts to 14.1 but mostly hanging in the 13 range and just as i pulled into the drive way i got Service ABS and then service active handling. So I am about to change the battery is this the right thing to do? Antone have any ideas?

Thanks

Change out the battery and I'd say it will be OK. The EBCM is affected by stray voltages

Here's how to unlock the radio

Makes sure your ABS sensors are all connected. If they get loose they will set off that warning. As to unlock your radio, here is a tech article on that.

That jumping voltage tells me that there is a bad connection somewhere. Your gauge doesn't measure the voltage at the battery. I would check the power wires going to the distribution box next to the battery, check the power wire going to the back of the alternator. I have seen a few batteries broken internally between the side post and the internal plates. That will wreak havoc on your electrical system. You can usually tell if that is the case if you know you have a good connection to the battery terminals, but when you try to wiggle the connection, you lose your voltage. Let us know what you find.

Hi again:
Put the new battery in and all is OK for now. I will check those other connections as well. Used the radio UN-LOC procedure and the radio is back on.
Thanks everyone for your help.
I'll keep you posted if it develops into anything bigger.
