I have the same exact problem with my MN6, backup lights come on when the approach lights are on, but no backup lamps when in reverse. I checked fuse #21 and the relay both is good. I bought a new switch for the tranny but haven't installed it yet. The shop manual says you need to remove the exhaust tube! Is this necessary to get to the backup lamp switch?
I have a strange issue with my backup lights not working(flash with fob but do nothing when in reverse), I already checked all the fuses/relays in the diagram and they are all good. I replaced the switch in the transmission with a new one.
So I got under the car and unplugged the connector that goes into the switch on the transmission and shorted it with a piece of wire and the backup lights come on. So I know all the wires/fuses/lights are good and working.
I also tested the new switch with a multimeter and when shifted into reverse it says it is working properly, the switch is closed.
But when I plug the connector into the switch they don't work, it doesn't make any contact apparently. Could the connector itself be messed up somehow so its not making contact, I threw away the old one without really looking at the contacts inside it or seeing if it worked or not. Anyone have an idea on what I could try?
