I've read a few threads now that have notional comparisions between corvettes and some other performance (enhanced or stock) car. While these discussions are interesting in themselves my brother in law may have said it best when we were walking out into a large parking lot to get into my car and discussing other performance cars as compared to the vette. He said: "you know, when you look across a parking lot full of cars like this, all the Subarus, Toyotas, Mustangs, Nissans, etc., etc. are just other cars in the lot, what stands out is a corvette". So, you can take a refrigerator, strap on a rocket motor and beat anything 1/4 mile all the time, or buy a shifter cart and beat anything in a auto-cross but at the end of the day it's still a refrigerator and a go-cart. The corvette is a unique total experience.

Excellent point. You can say all you want and do all you want to another car, but at the end of the day, it ain't a Vette. The point is that most of us didn't buy a Vette with the notion that we could outgun every car on the street. Most of us bought into the awesome combination of tractible V8 performance, great handling, sexy good looks and American sportscar heritage without having to compromise much on fuel economy, comfort or luggage space. It's a winner in my book!
