Default Headlight motor won’t stop running. Help!

The driver’s side headlight motor continues to run approximately 5 seconds after it is retracted into the body??? I can hear the nylon gears grinding until it stops. Is there an adjustment for the “cut off switch”? The passenger side works fine.

Ah, stripped gear.

Here you go:

That's for a Camaro but it's about the same for the vette.

Many here will tell you upgrade to the brass gear. That's ok, but I am on year 5 of the free fix (flipping the nylon gear over) and still going, even with the heavy Euro lights.

Run down to headlight gears in this sticky. It'll give you full instructions on how to fit the replacement brass gears. f you're going to do the job you may as well fit a gear that will last IMHO

It's not a horrible job, But I would (and did) use the brass aftermarket gear. As I'm glad I only had to do this job ONCE per side.

My 2 cents:

The Franker gear is nice but I opted for the brass gear kit from Rodney Dickman. His gear follows the factory design with a new beefy rubber bushing and also includes a new brace that takes stress off the plastic assembly after it's glued back together.

It seems like a daunting task and took me over three hours just for one side cause I really took my time. I was very satisfied with the results and am now confident that this gear will probably last me the life of my 2002 coupe.

I replaced mine with Rodney Dickman gears and couldn't be happier!
