Recently installed the Blackwing cold air intake and was wondering if anyone has considered cutting the factory openings ( with a dremmel tool ) rather than purchasing the cold air screens.
If yes, any pitfalls like wiring harness that may be in the way?
Thanks for your replies.
Many people who do this, also add the Z06 screens to cover up a less-than-perfect cutting job. I like my fog lights as they are, so I did some cutting in another location. It takes a bit longer to do, but the results speak for themselves - 40 degree drop in intake air temperature at low speeds and a much faster recovery period at higher speeds. You can see how I did it here:
I don't have a Blackwing but I used a 1" bit and drilled many holes in my foglight surrounds. It was much easier and cheaper than installing aftermarket surrounds with holes. I put the Z06 screens over the surrounds once I was done.
Why do all that cutting or drilling when you can just remove the shrouds completely. This won't affect the fog lights since they are not attached to each other. Z06 screens are a must to keep out debris.
